God bless Bishop Spong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Shelby_Spong

He has been a strong voice for progressivism in the US Episcopal church for some time now.

Our current presiding bishop, Katherine Jefferts-Schori has similar views>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katharine_Jefferts_Schori

If only the West Texas diocese would listen to them, but I imagine it will take some time for the southern dioceses to catch up to the rest of the country.

Great little video, Abe. The bishop makes it so simple.

Ann & DK.  If we reference some of previous posts conerning our take on religion, I think he summarizies our own take on religion.  With the new Pope, much has been changing.  More truth is being told and old dogmas exposed for what they are.
The God within us is our guiding light.

Things are looking up.

Ann will like that "looking up" part as she chooses to see a better future.  I must say, more clergy with this outlook could turn me towards more hope.

Thanks, Abe.  I'm looking forward now to checking out the other videos of Bishop Spong that are indicated on that page.

This is a phenomenal change in perspective, and the change isn't going to be recognized and accepted overnight, but there are signs that we are heading in that direction, it seems to me.

Synchronicity, Abe.  A hometown friend just posted your message from Bishop Spong in Facebook.

I watched the video. What the man is saying is not new, it has been around for some time. Like the Pope, he is putting the Bible aside. He is basically saying, “Don’t bother yourself with a God who demands you follow his laws, just be yourself…God is inside you.” He rejects Jesus as the only way too life.” This is not new, nor can it be proven to be correct.

I have learned many years ago, “It is spitting in the wind, to try to explain the Bible to those who do not want to believe it.

The more people turn away from the God of the Bible, the more the church will turn, and join them…it’s just a different path of control, and many will follow it.

More, and more churches will say, “We do not go to Heaven, or a Hell of Fire,” because those things have never been true. I have warned people, “Stay away from religions, they are not from God, nor do they tell the truth.”
