| 6/12/2012 Now their thinking about raising the social security age to 70 ! Are they nuts ? I say 62 is a good age you get 80% and you do live longer and collect longer, age 66 is too long, many seniors today are retiring at 62 because they can't find a job, I say leave the ages the way they are, what's your opinion ? I say tax all income wages wether you make $100,000 a year or 20 Million dollars a year that would make ss solvent.. http://money.cnn.com/2012/06/12/news/economy/retirement-age/index.htm?iid=HP_Highlight Cheers..Joe... |

| I firmly believe that all income should have been taxed right along. This is such a political football! I took social security at 62 - it was that or lose my house. I know many other seniors who faced the same decision when there are no jobs for those over 55 when there are no jobs for those in their 30's and 40's either.
If they raise the age to 70 (such a large jump doesn't make sense except to someone who has plenty of income and will never need Social Security) - it should be after the recovery - when people who need to work to keep from starving can find a job.
During a depression is not the time to be monkeying with services so direly needed because we are in a depression - I mean recession.
However, this is an easy mark - an easy fix. The real fixes are too complicated for the ignorant Congressmen and women (mostly men). You and I could fix it - fix the taxing code; fix the tort system; limit campaign expenditures; end lobbyists and increase non-partisan research staff; etc etc. - but those are logical fixes that have big money to prevent them. So, let's target Social Security. An easy fix. A one-liner to raise retirement to 70. Tell those businesses that make sure the last years on a job are so miserable that retiring is the only sane option. |

| Raising the retirement age is insane. Fifty year-old people are unemployed--what do they want the really old folks to do and who will hire them?
All income should have SS withheld.
My opinion. |

| Joe,
... and anything over $250,000 should be taxed at 15%.
You and I would straighten out things in a hurry. |

| I agree that raising the SS age to 70 makes no sense and yes, insane. As for the solvency of SS. There was a surplus, what happened to it? It is my understanding that the money was used to help finance a stupid war. If the government would keep their hands of the SS funds, it would remain solvent. I am not a financial genius, however my simple minds tells me that the money paid into the SS Fund should be there to pay out with interest unless it was lost or stolen. |

| People are living longer and thus drawing longer. Abe, I quite agree the funds should be untouchable unless repaid with substantial interest.
Wars are not a good excuse for depleting SS. |

| Alice, yes people are living longer and it appears they are trying to solve that problem with the lack of healthcare. And I also agree that wars are not a good excuse for depleting SS. The SS Funds are earmarked for SS benefit payout - not for funding wars. One needs to ask the question: How can we have a SS surplus and then when we invade Iraq, suddenly SS is lacking funds? Where's the money? If SS funds cannot be guaranteed, then it should not be a compulsory deduction from pay. That money belongs to the employee from whose pay it was deducted. |

| We owe the money to China--probably. If we can borrow for a war--why not borrow to pay what we owe retired people?
Money is of no concern when it is spent on war. We need to reconsider our priorities--we need a war on poverty and poor health. |

| The war drums are beating in Israel to attack Iran. Guess who will be involved should that occur?
As for Syria, It is now a civil war. Of course there is nothing civil about any war.
I agree Alice, NO to war. |

| Thank you, Abe.
To me it is tantamount to hitting your kids because they are hitting each other. There has to be a better way.
We get so charged up because of the killing that goes on in a civil war, we jump in and make matters worse.

| Alice, I believe it is similar to preventive medicine. Instead of waiting for the injury to fester or the cancer to spread, treatment can help prevent the disease. It costs less to spend money on war prevention than to engage in battle to stop those that start. |
