I've added a new daffodils photograph to Fine Art America; the two pictures show a left handed and right handed jug of spring daffodils:

I have been feeding three groups of birds who live in my trees. They come at 7:00Am, and 6:00 Pm.
All three groups (about 15 to 20) have lost all fear of me. They are funny to watch. This past week I have also been getting, one blue jay, and two black birds.
The little finch's  come toward me when I go into the back yard, and wait for the feed. I've been giving them bread...for some reason they love it.

I shoot them in front of glass so that the light shines through, Joe.

If you want your posts to format without having to put in the equal sign, click on the icon at the end of the row of icons (it looks like a faded page of text) on the bar above the posting box to change the editor (you probably clicked it by accident and you are now posting with the alternative editor).

April was cold and wet in the UK, and May is proving to be just as cold so far, which means shrubs stay in flower longer. The sun came out this afternoon for an hour or two, so I snapped this corner of my garden:

Cold and wet today. It rained all night and flooded the back patio. I took this photo an hour ago:

ETA: It started to rain again, so I took this photo:

On the climate change thread, I mentioned a plot of land that had been designated a conservation area. This land is listed here:

http://www.sssi.naturalengland.org.uk/Special/sssi/sssi_details.cfm?sssi_id=1006119

The citation for the land with details of why the land is of scientific interest is listed here:

http://www.sssi.naturalengland.org.uk/citation/citation_photo/1006119.pdf

This is a photograph taken two days ago of the entrance to the designated area. The gate is overgrown, but was once the entrance to a cleared path that led to a privately owned coal mine. The stile on the left signifies a right of way for walkers:

This is the stile at the opposite end of the path (now overgrown):

These are the types of plants that are being protected:

This is a video  I made of me walking along the path, followed by my husband and brother. What a bossy old thing at the end of the walk telling them to stay out of the picture!

Liked them on FB. Blue hydrangeas are Susan's favorite flower.

Hi Joe,

I think your question is about my aunt's and uncle's garden. They have worked on the garden for forty years. It has changed over the years with the addition of new out buildings, paths, trees and shrubs. The pond has carp in it that are close to thirty years old; they even have names! The pond includes a pump that operates a waterfall over the rocks at the back of the pond. In the warm summer evenings, the garden takes on a magical appearance in the artificial lights installed around the garden.

                     Shelagh..
I love it , tell them for me they did a beautiful job, I
almost forgot they are called Carp, I've always known them as
Koi Fish, I saw some in the pet store, tempted to buy one but
I was told they grow huge and you have to have a very large
tank. I love when I have seen them at the Botanical Garden
                      in Albq.,NM ..

                                                        Cheers..Joe.... Very Happy

It's interesting, the different names for fish and animals in different countries/languages. When we were in Japan in 69, we kept seeing these red snapper in fish tanks around the city. We asked our guide (Mr. Oh No, or better, Oh-No-San), who told us it was a rare fish called Tai, and was used in ceremonial dishes.

At that time, red snapper was quite common in the Gulf area. We spent our family Fridays at a well-known seafood restaurant in the Tri-city (Orange/Beaumont/Port Arthur) area. We came so often that the staff put in our order before we arrived, and brought our first course as soon as we were seated. The main course was broiled red snapper steak, two orders plus extra plates for the kids.

They were caught off the "snapper banks," not far from Galveston, and snapper fishing was a "sport" where large boats had spaces for lots of customers to stand with a baited pole and just pull up one fish after another, to take home enough dressed fish to freeze for several months. The banks were fished out some years ago, sad to say, but it is still my favorite fish, by whatever name, whatever the cost, which is somewhat higher these days.

This year I published five short stories based on classic Christmas stories. These are they:

All five total $8.95. The whole collection is available at the give-away price of $2.99!
