My friend, Ann Livingston Joiner, sent this to me today. She is a wonder ful person and fellow author.

I was cleaning out some old files yesterday, and came across this article on Jonathan Young by a reporter namd Dan Ord, writing for the Missoula Independent back in 2000. Jonathan Young was a student of Joseph Campbell, and continues working with myth and folktales, etc.

"Young goes on to say that talking animals and plants in many fairy tales represent a sort of life force. They tend, he says, to break down the wall civilized people have used to keep nature at an arm's length. The environmental ethic, he concludes, is deeply ingrained in these stories, and by recognizing this separation, humanity can not just resolve emotional conflicts, but correct the practices which threaten to destroy the source of much knowledge."

See how important your stories are? Keep writing them.

I always felt folklore was a way of controling or connecting with the environment. If something was happening to you, you might use an old folk lore trick to stop it, like carrying a brass key in your pocket to ward off ghosts. If you wanted to understand and connect withthe faries, there are folklore instructions on how to feed them, when to do so, ect.

I told you so, Betty. Don't you think we should hear Woofer's version of his recent stay at the vets?

Thanks for that Betty. I sent it along to my daughter who is getting ready to return to university soon and has taken some time this summer to ponder her future as a writer.
