I Am Tired Empty
PostSubject: I Am Tired   I Am Tired EmptyTue Oct 09, 2012 1:49 pm

The presidential campaign has gone on far too long. The lies are tiresome. I am sick of the emails and advertisements.

People believe what they want to.
Yesterday I got a lying email from a friend with, do you believe this?
I replied NO, I DO NOT!
Wish it would end.

Anyone else weary?

Dear Alice,

My David and I are. He does not want to " hear another word about politics during dinner!". I consider that reasonable people have made up their minds for whom they will vote already. More lies will not endear them more to Romney and more truth will only anger them and make them spout more lies. I hope that the majority of the American people (who are all different colors, religions, economic levels, levels of intelligence, prejudices, hopes and dreams) will vote for Mr. Obama. I expect that everyone who is not making 200,000 a year, will see the light. The people who do make that much money feel included in the "special and apart" people and even though they know it is a bad move for America, will vote for Romney because they do not want to let go of a bit more money in taxes. I personally home they all have to go live in China one day and be limited to one child per family, (without birth control and only neutering to help them adher to that rule).

But, there is still a lot of ignorance in America and prejudice (at least here in the state of Florida). I know people who do not have enough intelligence or mental facilities to write their own name legibly who will vote for Romney because their daddy hated blacks, their mamma hated blacks, their cousin bubba hates blacks and so they do to0. No reason require.

I hope that there are enough black, brown, yellow, red and white people who calmly go to the voting booth and cast a reasonable ballot.

Love,

Betty

Betty,

I am afraid a lot of people are voting for Romney out of fear.

Me, too, Betty. For a true representative democracy we need a better educated and more sophisticated public. We don't have it. In fact, I think with the influence of the religious right it's going backward.

We have pretty much talked it all out here. There really isn't any more to say. Like Betty said, everyone has pretty much made up their minds.

If I were to pick on any one right now it would be the media. It is like a game to them. Rather than report objectively, they create polls and skew statistics in order to get readers and viewers coming back for more.

Yes, I am weary Alice. My worry now is that fewer people will got to the polls to cast that "reasonable ballot."

Like all of you, I wonder about a public who seems ((unless those polls are skewed, too) to be impressed by a candidate's ability to take over what is supposed to be a controlled discussion with rude, aggressive behavior and to be disappointed in an opponent who shows reasonable restraint and refuses to play that kind of game. I guess fear and aggression go together.

That's why I am letting go. I will vote, even though my vote will be discounted by the electoral college. I believe I have a responsibility to cast my ballot, because everyone who doesn't vote will be contributing to even more malaise and that will just do more to convince Congress that they can vote as they choose without paying any attention to the voices of the people who elect them.

I am going to focus on the inhabitants of my fictional valley. At least I have some control over what happens there, even though my muses sometimes manage to wrest that away, too.

What happens is that people who agree find each other. People who disagree take offense. Thus, instead of exchanging ideas for a potential solution, everyone gathers up their marbles.

Tomorrow is a new day. I always remember that when I lay my head down to sleep. Nothing is etched in stones, no one person has all the power, everyone has a voice (even if is is less than a whisper and only the silent people can hear it).

I have faith in the silent people. When the time comes, their voice will be a shout.

Love,

Betty

I Am Tired Empty
PostSubject: Re: I Am Tired   I Am Tired EmptyWed Oct 10, 2012 1:17 pm

I came across this blog site - looking for something else, but it hit so close to what we were expressing, felt I had to share it. My first time to reach the site, so I don't know much about it or her.

Quote :
Politics, Truth and Compassion
September 27th, 2012
Are you as worn out from this election season as I am? I am beyond weary from fending off the incoming—all kinds of energetic approaches vying for my mental, psychic and emotional attention, ranging from snail mail, email, print and TV ads, the endless coverage by the media of each side’s daily talking points and the innumerable partisan surrogates appearing on behalf of each agenda, and, most difficult of all to bear, the relentless sniping and small hearted negative attacks that appear to be acceptable terms of engagement in politics. We are all being subjected to energetic fields replete with the signature qualities of combativeness, hostility, and very emotionally charged adversity, in some cases rising to level of hatred. This affects our physical bodies, our minds and psyches, and our sense of spiritual hope and love in ways we may not stop to think about, but we feel. Imagine the overload on our collective consciousness and unconsciousness as we try to sort out the facts and separate the hype from the truth.
-----------------------------
So, how do you maintain your center, your truth, in the midst of this? How do you exercise your franchise—that is, your right and duty to participate in the election process– while at the same time remembering what matters? Really matters, in a day-to-day, human-to-human, experience and practice of love and compassion.

Stop. Look. Listen. To your inner self, to that small voice that is you. Find it again.
---------------------------------------
So often in the frenzy of political contest we become polarized and removed from our sense of compassion. Be watchful of this. Make sure that you are not unduly influenced, and that you are critical in your acceptance of information. Be discerning. Take a break, often, and turn off the sources of incoming and settle into yourself; your inner awareness, your true self, is a more reliable indicator of best direction than the external sources that are competing for your loyalty. Trust yourself. Inform yourself from within, not only from without.
------------------------------------------
As you move into self trust, it is important to begin from a neutral place. This can be difficult. So be critical and honest with yourself as you approach finding your way. It is human nature that we tend to create circumstances that support what we want to believe—that is what cognitive resonance and dissonance are all about. Be gentle with yourself, but be aware of your own bias, and remove it from the process of going within to the extent you can. In other words, be discerning with yourself.
