Anyone remember when this was a popular word to spell? And define?

I remember watching the quiz show segment that started it all. I tried to find a youtube video. This was the closest I could come. It is eight minutes long, but pretty much tells the whole story:
I remember the host of The $64,000 Question saying that it was the longest word in the English language, and that was why it was chosen.
Gloria Lockerman's category, BTW, was Spelling.
