| Just for Fun
Those with children most likely have amusing stories about things the kids said or did. Remember Art Linkletter and his TV Program: “Kids say the Darndest things”?
I’ll start: I think it was In the first or second grade in school. My son had a class assignment where he was to write about his parents. His last line was: “My parents are not so bad once you get to know them.” |

| During a power outage, my sister-in-law could only use the gas stove. My nephew went into the kitchen by habit to put his food in the microwave. When he realized his mistake, he said, "Gee, this is like camping." Not quite: they had a gas stove; he had just never used it.

| When we were vacationing in Hawaii, We climbed into a mountain crater. Dan was having trouble walking so I carried him piggy back.
"Stop talking." He commanded.
"Why?"
"Because you don't seem so much like an animal when you talk."
I have never quit chuckling over that. |

| My children are getting too old to do funny things, and I regaled you all with my granddaughter's goodies in last month'sgrandmothering thread.
But you can blame Alice for my memory of an incident not unlike the one she reported (for those of you who will groan and look for someone to blame).
A year ago right about now, my literary muse was with his family on a working vacation in Newfoundland. According to his Twitter report, he took a bit of his time off work to take his sons sightseeing. The youngest had just turned five, and was not able to keep up with his seven-year-old brother, and Dad carried him for the last part. When they got home, the five-year-old complained to his mother:"I counted all the way to forty(which, at the time, was as far as he was able to count), Mum; only there was more!

| Sharon was four. I took her into Sears to the catalog department and set her on the counter next to me. While I was leafing through the catalog, the guy on the other side of her farted quite audibly. Everyone except Sharon tried not to notice. She looked at him and said, "Do you have to go potty?" The guy buried his head in his catalog and tried to ignore the chuckles that came from the clerks and other customers. Then she said, "Did you stinky in your pants?" The room broke out in laughter, and the guy headed for the exit.
She'll be fifty in August. She wishes I'd stop telling that story.

| My youngest was a bit of a clutz, especially as a pre-teen. One day we were stepping from the dock onto our fishing boat and the child next to us simply disappeared. He stepped off the dock and went straight to the bottom. Fortunately, he could swim and bobbled up pretty quickly, soaked, fishing gear still in hand.
Another time, he was riding my special made racing bike until we loaded it on the sailboat. He rode it down the dock - and straight off the end and down to the bottom. He came up quickly, but bringing up the bike was more complicated.
The fact that we lived three years on a sailboat and that child was a master sailor was a miracle. |
