| He must be improving they let him out of the hospital. I can't help but wonder how royalty endures a hospital stay.
When I was there, they didn't even give me a pillow. When I asked for one I was told they didn't have pillows because people stole them. I replied that I had no intention of stealing the pillow, but needed one because of my long neck and and having wires running down it was miserable. They folded up a blanket and gave that to me. It was better than nothing. They discharged me with IV tube still in. I pulled it and tossed it:) |

| Alice, sorry to hear about the 'uncare" you received. This ties in with the current Health Care thread. Just returned home from visiting my wife at the hospital. She is in good spirits and full of praise for the medical staff. The Chief Surgeon talked with her today explaining what they're doing, etc. She may be released sometime this week and then return for the operational procedures. In the meanwhile, they are conducting further tests. They want to be sure before doing any cutting. |

| When I think of all the money spent on pageantry - it reminds me of all the wasted money on U.S. elections. Maybe during economic plenty - but these are difficult times the world over. Costs need to be cut though pageantry at a lower scale, of course. |

| Oh well, the money spent provides work for somebody--it stimulates the economy. People flew on airplanes, rode trains,to get there, then needed to eat and sleep. It helped the providers. |

| Economic factors aside, there is also something to be said for the intangible value of national pride--of a people celebrating a popular monarch's life-long service. Whatever the economic situation, national pride and a shared purpose can get a nation through anything. Our British cousins most bravely proved that to the world during the Blitz.
God Save the Queen, God Save the Royal Family (warts and all), and God Save our best, unshakeable allies, the Brits! |

| 6/11/2012 I think since our political system is a "GIANT FAILURE!" We should once again be apart of British Empire, just think how great we would be one great nation with a Queen who is regal, loyal and yes majestic.. Cheers..Joe.. |

| I have never understoood the idea of a family that was entitled, through birth, to have a palace, rule a country, dictate anything. I consider it a relic and barbaric.
Suppose I was the queen's daughter. I am an ignorant, mean, snotty, piece of work. Yet, I am the queen's daughter. I am royal, not a matter what anyone thinks and nothing they can do about it. I have power just because I am born. The press will follow me around and report every thing I wear, what I do and say.
Kings and Queens and the Prince and Princess are sucking up money from the populace. Why is that. Does England still believe in fairy tales?
Love,
Betty |

| Good post, Betty. Being rich or important by merit of birth is true in our country. The Kennedy's, and the Bush's are just two examples. GWB didn't merit his position and proved to the world that money can't buy intelligence. We saw that with GWB. |

Not, here, DK. The royal family generate a great deal more money for the country than they spend. We would be a lot poorer without their dedication, willingness to travel overseas, and commitment to duty. We owe the royal family, and I think that was clearly demonstated throughout the soggy, Jubilee weekend. The Duke of Edinburgh stood far too long on a barge in the middle of the Thames -- longer than any man at his age should be asked to do. It made him ill. It also gained him a lot of admiration. |

God Save the Queen, God Save the Royal Family (warts and all), and God Save our best, unshakeable allies, the Brits! Thank you, Victor! We feel the same way about the US. They came in our hour of need and brought the war to an end. We couldn't have done it without you. |

Love,
Betty Maybe you would feel differently if you met one of the royal family, Betty. The Princess Royal opened the Commonwealth Games Conference in Glasgow, 1986. My husband was one of the organisers (Biomechanics section) and was imtroduced to Princess Anne at the end of the opening ceremony. As his wife, I was also invited. Priincess Anne is intelligent, not in the least bit snotty and a very hardworking lady. One thing she is not is photogenic. Her photos do not do her justice; she is pretty, fine boned and has a flawless complexion (despite her outdoor lifestyle). You could not meet anyone more worthy of admiration. This is the daughter of one of the staff at the University of Strathclyde (the venue for the conference) giving flowers to Princess Anne: |

Cheers..Joe.. Joe, do you celebrate the 4th of July? Many of our forefathers died to make our country independent. Are you suggesting that it was all in vain? We can respect another country and be the best of friends, but that doesn't mean that one must be a dependent. |
