These things are really proliferating. Have you ever used one? I haven't, unless reading something downloaded on Acrobat Reader qualifies. That makes for easy reading but it isn't quite the same as relaxing in a comfortable chair with a good book.

I'm thinking they might be a good alternative for people on public transportation (slated to be more prevalent in the future). Instead of lugging a book along, or fidgeting throught your messages, you could be reading a novel on your cell phone or blackberry screen.

Or this little gadget. Maybe.

Not to mention sitting around boring meetings at work.

They should publish ebooks with a scren that popls up at a touch making it look like the user is perusing a quicken database, rather than reading "Trailer Tramps From Hell"

Yeah, something like this is inevitable, but I'm not looking forward to it.

I LIKE having a book in my bag. That way when Mrs. Annoying sits beside me on the bus, she can SEE that I am reading, rather than lean over and want to see my gadget.

Is it just me, or does the proliferation of reading devices remind anyone else of the VHS/Beta and PC/Mac type of debates?

My memoir of worldwide big game hunting, PARTING SHOT, is ready for scheduled release as an e-book next month. The same book has been in paper print for a few years. Now that it's no longer in cumbersome and fragile paper, I can just see every deer hunter around the country secure on their tree stands reading my book on their B-pod or whatever the latest electronic gadget is called, while waiting for their trophy buck to stroll into shooting range. Waterfowlers and turkeyteers too, utilizing the long down time in the blinds waiting for the next goose overflight or the next tom turkey to come strutting and spitting by. My book will fill the void. I'll get rich...go once again on safari.. read my own e-book by flashlight from the leopard blind. It could happen.

Dear Jim,
I can see your vision!

I have Wooffer ready to go as an ebook. I believe that the technology will encompass more than looking at a page. Ahhh, the graphics one could create for that e book gadget that is coming out on Readius! A little animation for my kind of story would be wonderful, if only one little gif per chapter.

I can see the lions and turkeys trotting across the little screen as I type, and the mice and lizards and little dogs. Makes one smile.

Love,
Betty

Again, I think this can be dealt with at a software level. Another button flashes up a picture of a naked hairy biker giving her the finger
