Hi Abe,
I am sorry it has taken me so long to read you posts about Gisela and you appendix.  You have had a hard week or two!  I am glad that things are looking up!

I forgot to inquire about your surgery!  Glad you are on the mend - and that you have company for your drive.

Diane, had my follow-up visit with the doctor yesterday.  Bandages removed and on the outside healing looks good.  Inside, I still feel the twinge and soreness that accompanies any surgery.  But, thanks for asking.  I'm on the mend.

Domenic, thanks.

It's early morning here and I'm about to get ready for the drive.  I'll let you all know how it goes.
Isn't it great to have a family?

It was a very hot day.  Although the BMW had AC, it didn't cool as well as it should have.  We made it home okay even with the Friday Staus on the Autobahn.  When I checked the temperature on our balcony it was 100F.   Around 9PM it began go cool.
She's happy to be home and now I must make sure she doesn't overdo anything.

Just talked with my wife.  She will be coming home on Sunday.  The infusions seem to have helped.  I could hear the clarity in her voice.  Her speech was affected and it was difficult for her to form words without stuttering.  I wanted to know what is in the infusions that seem to be helping and it is: Immunoglobulin.  You can google it.  That together with other medication seems to be helping control the disease and inhibit more deteroriation.  The medication dose must be monitored and adjusted on a regular basis and they do this with blood tests. All the drugs and infusions associated with her care is very expensive.  Fortunately it is all covered by our health program.  We are so fortunate.

Thanks Shelagh.  Will do.  She already has her next appointment for December 16th.  I only hope it is a short stay and that she will be home for Christmas.

Good news Abe...we have all been praying for you, and your wife for the last four years...you two have gone through hell. I know you don't believe as I do, but there is a future friend...for all of us.

Dear Abe,
I know she is glad to be home as you are for her to be there.  There is nothing more lonely than a home without each other being there.  I hope you can show her all the new recipes you have learned while she was regrouping.  Love and prayers to you both. What a relief!
Love,
Betty

Betty, you struck a chord when you mentioned "new recipes".  She always complains that in the morning she must think about what to make for dinner and that to her is a chore just thinking about it.
I try to put a mile on her face every morning knowing that a smile is a good way to start the day. Yesterday morning when I talked with her by phone, I brought her up-to-date on things around the house, telling her about the garden, the few tomatoes still clinging to the vine.  I told her about the pears and apples that had to be thrown out since they were rotting and then I said: "The biggest problem I have is deciding what to make for dinner."  She broke out laughing.  Then she walked me through what was in the freezer and what I could prepare for dinner.  She wanted to know if I was taking good care of the cats.  Did I give them fresh water every day, did I give them attention by petting them, and did I make sure their food bowls were kept full?  For me, asking those questions meant that she was feeling much better.
On another matter.  I know her physical limitations while at the same time understand what is good for her and what makes her happy.  She loves to go into the garden even if it is just to putter around.  I could do everything that needs to be done, but know that she needs to feel that she is doing something constructive and at the same time get some exercise.  I watch her and when I think she has had enough, I will call her to come for a fresh cup of coffee.  Taking a break gives her a chance to recover and keeps her from overdoing anything that will tax the muscles.  I have been criticized for not doing the things myself.  Without understanding, people tend to make judgments and/or criticize.  I think we all do this at times.  We observe something and make judgements about what should be done or how one should act in a given situation.  I am often reminded of the quote:  "The most hazardous of human tendencies is to draw conclusions from limited information."
It is not easy to brush off uninformed criticism/judgements and it takes time to accept it for what it is.  I try to see the positive side and consider that it shows concern.  Sucking it up and moving on is never easy, but it can be done.

Joe, you may want to see this web page: https://www.facebook.com/notes/%D9%83-kakimotong-%D9%83-fan-club/17-health-benefits-of-owning-a-cat-spread-this-words-to-your-friends-/369955169729073

Cats provide comfort when one is sick.  They can sense that you are ill and cuddle up.  Their purring can help regulate your heart rhythm.   It is sad that some people are allergic to cat fur.  Immunity starts at an early age.  Having pets for kids is a good thing in various ways.

My wife arrived today and is happy to be home.  The information she carried with her from the hospital referred to it as an “AKUT” (acute) facility for Neurological patients.
I asked her if it was called “a cute” facility because of its appearance or if they only accepted cute patients.  I got the smile I wanted after ducking to avoid the newspaper thrown at me.  She knew she was home when I started with the silly stuff.
What a change in my routine to have her with me.  Even the cats were happy to see her and competed for a position on her lap for the special scribbles she gives them.
