| What a joke! They have been desecrated for years--now the tax has been suspended for two years. What exactly does this accomplish other than seeing them vanish sooner?
Just very curious as usual. |

| It's very simple. They figure, hey, you used to make a hundred bucks and pay six towards Social Security; now you can use the six to get a beer at the corner pub, which will cheer you and everybody else up, and once everybody's cheerful, the economy will pick up, manufacturing jobs will come back from China, and cars will run on water. And we're not going to run out of water because we've just found some on Mars.
It's pretty odd how intelligent grownups still figure that government people must be smart. How can they not be smart? They're in the government. They show them on TV. (And you have to be smart to be on TV).
A couple of years ago Bruce Willis gave an interview in which he stated that people should no longer believe in God because, and I quote, "We now know how the Sun moves."
If all of the contest participants are morons, a reasonable person should at least allow for the possibility of a moron winning it.
What does this accomplish, you ask.
Simple. A moron gets to say (with a straight face): "Well, we tried." |

| Joe , The workers pay social security taxes withheld to a certain limit of their income. Now the tax has been suspended for two years. That will not help seniors, and they are not the wealthy. |

| Dear Rick, I believe that you look at the world through pragmatic eyes. But, in my experience, people have to have hope. Hope is what really changes the way things are in the end. Love, Betty |

Alice..
I paid in for 44 years that's a long time. I do wish that they change the law if someone dies and their single the remainder goes to who ever you wish in your will as a lump sum, the govt. has a cute trick if you die single they get to keep it all, this is a " Scam !" It's your money you paid into, I know of many people who died before 62 and guess what they govt. kept it all !!!!
Cheers..Joe |

| Joe, The way our SS system is set up, the money we pay in doesn't belong to us. We are supposed to pay in, cross our fingers and hope they will give something back when we reach retirement age, whatever age they determine that will be. Then they steal the funds and say there is not enough money available. It is a crime in my view. You will get arguments from many that SS was never intended to be a retirement fund. What then was it intended for? Many are dependet on SS to live after retirement. We know that private funds are not guaranteed as income sources. Many were wiped out in the on-going financial meltdown. Government guarantee is needed and that's what SS once represented, until the government began to use (steal) the money. If one tries to avoid paying into SS, you get punished. Where is the punishment for taking/using those funds without payback? If they say they just borrowed the money, when have they ever paid interest on the money they borrowed? Accountability is needed. They are obviously asleep and perhaps need a wake-up call and that starts with screaming loud enough. Make it a campaign issue. We the people demand justice. We demand accountability. We demand our rights and that includes "our money". If we can't get it when we retire, then they should not be allowed to collect it. We want assurance that our funds are protected. |

| I paid in for 51 years. All it takes to preserve SS is to lift the cap on who pays into the insurance premiums. That should be done immediately. That ends that issue.
Oops, that won't work. The high income earners will object. They don't pay as high a percentage of their income into the system as the low income workers who pay until the day they retire - since they never earn enough to reach the cap.
Everything is political; nothing is done to really benefit anyone except those who have the power. The power is in the hands of those who control the money. Period. |

| In the United States, we are the government. We elect representatives. Unfortunately, the system has turned upside down. Our representatives tell us what they will or will not (mostly to preserve their own political power) do instead of the people telling their representatives what policies we need and want. We are brainwashed by political hoopla and the political parties jockeying for power.
Because if we could tell our needs they would be for security, safety and a quality life for our families. We would want equal opportunity for education and economic upward mobility. We want health care for everyone and food and shelter for all people. We want to treat each other with respect for our individual differences and choices. Every snowflake is unique.
Instead, we allow 1% of the population to rule our choices. That's our fault, not the fault of the politicians or the President. It is the fault of a population that is ill-informed and lives from sound bites.
We want no further wars. |

| Oops the people are still paying, the businesses no longer are matching the withholding for the next two years. The cap should be lifted and the businesses should keep on paying. |
