| Something to think about. Hire a local video production company (or recruit a nephew) to record your presentation. Make DVDs and sell them on line. I'd buy one. If you use an amateur, ensure that he or she knows how to operate a camcorder on a tripod. When there are questions from the audience, repeat each question. Often a camcorder doesn't pick up something not said over the sound system. I wish I could attend. |

| Good suggestion. And even if it's not something people would buy, you could boil it down to a video "infommercial" |

| Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure what the audience will be so I am making a light hearted discussion of how things went and some problems I encountered and overcame. I'll bear the idea in mind, it was very good! |

| The tribulations don't bother me so much.
But going to the trials will wear you down. |

| I have an hour's presentation at the Suncoast Writers' Guild of Englewood, FL at the Englewood Art League at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 5.
An hour seeems a long time. Usually, I take about 15 minutes to read a little, talk a little a nd answer a few questions.
I wish us both good fortune. I'd like to have someone record my presentation but I am not as confident at the moment as I wish; that's a great idea for the next one.........
I've had teaching presentations recorded before and I was licking my lips, twisting my hair, pulling down my jacket that wanted to hike up in back and not smiling enough. The audio was great............:-) |

| I do a lot of presentations for work so I should be OK. However, this being different to my usual presentations has caused me some anxiety. Unfortunately I have to travel a long way to get back home that day, and again the next day so I'm hoping the traffic isn't a nightmare! |

| The talk was titled, "Putting the Puzzle Together." I passed out puzzle pieces with the topics in my talk, each on a different piece. The audience members put that piece into the puzzle as the talk went on. When I was done, the puzzle was finished. I must say, it was a gimmick that held the audience to the end; that's why I'm sharing it.
Specific to Ghost ORchid, I passed out little clear glass bubbles that had several with numbers on them - the winner received a free book. This also went well as it tied to some of the reading from Ghost Orchid that brings tears (the little glass tears).
Overall, I realized that my old presentation skills from when I keynoted at conferences on multi-cultural diversity, etc. will transfer to me as an author. I need to do even more presentations. I sold every book I came with (even after telling them how much less they cost as ebooks) and that the local library carried Ghost Orchid.
This presentation bit was far superior to standing around attacking those who wander into the signing (well, not exactly attacking).
I am approaching publicity from the internet and from personal appearances. I'm just needing to push myself a bit more out of a shell I have build in the last few years.
The concern is the amount of time it takes from finishing the next two books. I'm in sort of a slump, so I'm out presenting until it hopefully passes......
I'm sure you'll do just fine - the audience was gracious. |
