| It was just before Christmas when I last went to the grocery store, a simple task for most people. Having six kids I spent lots of time pushing those carts around as I filled them with cereal and veggies and hamburger. The littlest kid rode in the little seat on the cart. Usually one of the older kids pushed a second cart, while other little ones walked along side.
Today I learned what the little kids walking along side could see. That is where the grocery store owners put the fantastic ice cream bars, the best cookies, and lots of goodies. I found that out today as I held a red plastic basket in my lap and my husband pushed me in my wheel chair through the grocery store. And yes, I put the fantastic ice cream bars, and best cookies in my little red basket.
The last time I went to the grocery store was just before Christmas when I knew they had gift cards for various stores and shopping was limited in a wheel chair, but I was still determined to shop for Christmas gifts.
Ah, the grocery store: the cakes, deli, special cheese, yogurt, milk, toothpaste, and all those things we take for granted to find there.
Going to the grocery store was a really big deal for me!!! Life is viewed differently from three feet off the ground rather than five. It is rather amazing really.
So many things I have taken for granted over the years have become amazing!!!! |

| I love this story, Carol. They say that we become more childlike as we age. You did it literally! LOL! |

| Dear Carol,
When I was small, no one much cared where I went. I happened to go into the IGA market, wandered around and found hostess snowballs all covered in pink marshmellow and coconut. My God! I had to have one. I had no money but I still wanted one. I put it down the top of my dress and started for the door.
I was not half way down that aisle before a hand snatched me from behind.
Kicked out, I was.
You are right. The Snowballs are down there at kid eye level.

| Dear Carol, Way back then, when our children were so small and we hauled them around the grocery, ....I have thought of that this day. Children went...they went where you went. They did not have choice to stay home or be elseware. They were there with you. It did not matter if you had one or six. I remember that time, too. They did not whine about having to go with you to the store. It was a chance to tell you what they saw on tv that they wanted to eat, too. Snap, Crackle and Pop.
Tomorrow is a NEW day.
God bless Carol.

| Thank you Betty. We had a little boy everyone called Mikey, and they'd always ask if he liked something. I think it was the commercial for Life cereal where they said to ask Mikey if he liked it. Sometimes things would appear in my cart I didn't put there! What a group they were. Some of those ads are still around and they bring back such memories. I feel very blessed. Love, Carol |

| There were 12 years difference between my oldest and youngest, so we reached the point where the oldest could stay home with the youngest. I did need all the help I could get. My husband would be gone three or four days at a time, so at those times I was a single mom. He would call when he could, but sometimes I was not even sure where he was, as schedules would be changed.
Ah, memories, how they linger on my soul.

| Funny memories. When I was a girl, it was my older brother who put mysteries in the grocery basket. -Smoked oysters?- Mom would say as she was putting things away. Bill would be hunting for the cream cheese and chips. -You bet,- he'd say.-They make a great dip.-

| When my son was ten years old, his friend Chris would often go to the store with us. He and my son would cook it up between them.
In the dog food aisle, with sincere acting ability and pathos, they would begin.. "Aw, ma. Do we have to eat dog food again this week!?"
Then they would walk down the aisle looking like mistreated souls.

| Betty, that is funny. Kids cook up crazy things to do or say. When my son was about 8 or 9, he was in the store with his mother. A lady asked his name and he said, "Pierre." Have no idea where that name came from, but it got a laugh. |
