I mostly use Times New Roman for everything and sometimes Arial.

Hi
Thanx! It does look better in Times New Roman.
I haven't tried Garamond yet, but will do.

Hi
I've tried a few fonts now; the one I really like is: "Book Antiqua"
Any thoughts?

Traditionalists will say that you should never use a sans serif type face for text, only the headlines or subheads. Type faces like arial (with no serifs) are harder to read in the text of the book to the Roman faces.

In many ways, the font you choose for the MS is irrelevant as long as its within the publisher's guidelines since, if the MS is accepted, the publisher will choose the font for the book.

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for that comment; much appreciated.
My wife and I have just finished editing my book 'King of Princes'. I am now preparing the book for manuscript appraisal.
I will take your advice and use a serif type face.
As my book is largely set in Wales and the chief characters are Welsh, the Welsh Book Council have agreed to do the manuscript appraisal for me.
It is not a good time to submit the book (the silly season), so I'll hand it to them at the beginning of January, this will give us a bit more time to go over it again.
Best regards, Font for a Historical Novel 78793

Hi
I decided to print the book in Times New Roman, it looks good in that type face.
I've given it to my daughter to read, if she OK's it, then it's off for manuscript appraisal.
So please hold thumbs.....Font for a Historical Novel 592730
