| Thank you Alice and Abe. Julia is my great grandchild. She 2 and 1/2 years old. I will add a butterfly and a ladybug, I think. I might put a little fairy in somewhere. Love, Betty |

| Alice, I ordered the pattern. I will make it for her Christmas Present. The flowers are appliqued on a patchwork background of blues for the sky and some green on the bottom. I have made quilts for each of my grandchildren and now I am working on making one for each of my great grands. I have made one for Ayden already and now this one will be Julia's and I have one more to make (so far) for another girl, Emily. I have not decided what that one will be yet.
I will post a picture when I am finished. I hope mine looks as lovely as this picture! Love, Betty |

| Beautiful! I interviewed an artist in our recent issue at www.swspotlight.com whose quilts are on the cover. I also interviewed another quilt artist who designed patterns for fabric manufacturers.
Quilting has moved from "craft" to "art." |

| Dk, I have always thought that sewing was an art and especially quilts. I do applique with a combination of patchwork and embroidery. I love doing it. It is a serious concentration that it takes to make a beautiful quilt. I have painted toy boxes and pictures of peoples favorite places. It is excruciatingly attention to detail. I may not be the best at it, but I do my best. My family loves my art. I have never put it out there so much for other people's appreciation except on this Published Author message board where some one always has nice words to say.
Love, Betty |

| Thank you all. I am encouraged. I often think that I do not have the talent to produce beautiful things. It does not stop me from trying. I love making pictures with fabric. I love the focus of it, the challenge of making the fabric do the painting for me. If that makes sense. Love, Betty |

Christi dk@swspotlight.com Pat Kumicich with her quilt “The Eyes Have It.” Staff | staff@swspotlight.comNaples — Award-winning artist Pat Kumicich used discarded French cigarette packages from France for the bodies of her eclectic, whimsical dolls. She painted 40 small portraits in 40 days for an art challenge. Yet, she finds her personal story told best in multi-media art quilts. In her quilt ‘“Affirmations,” she reminds us we don’t need to rely on others to tell us we are good. “We can tell ourselves that we are okay and good,” said Kumicich. Handwritten, positive affirmations in the background frame the image of a geometric, female face set like a puzzle with over 20 different fabric swatches used for the hair and “Affirmations” spelled in Scrabble blocks down one side of the face.“I don’t push feelings, but rather express mine for the viewer to find their own emotional response,” said Kumicich.Pat Kumicich, “Affirmations,” 48” Wx47”L, multi-media fiber art Pat Kumicich“Freedom Is Not Free,” one of her first art quilts, was made when her son was serving in combat. | So do you! She talked about her work the same as you do, Betty. The whole article isn't there but she told how the quilt is more expressive from her perspective than a painting. And the way you describe your quilting is the same as she describes her process. I put her info here so you would see your own talent in being able to produce such special quilts for your family. |

| Diane, you make me smile so with pride! Here is a crazy quilt I made for my daughter. I think it is unique. I used my own method for sewing it. Love, Betty |

| The pattern came today. I can see it in my mind's eye with the fabrics that I will look for. I learned something new. They talk about fat quarters. It is a quilting term, I think. If you measure a half of a yard of fabric that is folded and then cut it along the fold you have two fat quarters. Who knew? This is an applique pattern that I am instructed to trace on butcher paper and then glue onto the background that is a 4 inch patched background that will be the sky and the green ground. I have never used glue. It is a very pretty pattern and will take some finesse to accomplish. It will have my love in it for sure. Love, Betty |

| I have been working on this blanket for a while. The cutting of the pattern took five days. The sewing is a lot of intricate work and time. I am not bitching because anything beautifully made takes time and concentration. I will be so proud when this is done. As with any work of art, (be it writing or painting or photography or sewing) it is the joy of the creation that makes it worth the while. No one whom has ever not enjoyed that process can actually understand the time and mind it takes to create something from nothing...out of thin air, if you will. I think about all the stories you tell, all of Alice's hand designed plates, Shelagh's graphic designs with the lovely ladies and gowns....Joe's photographs and paintings....we are not just another bunch of pretty faces....that is for sure. Love, Betty |

| Joe, your flower is beautiful. I can understand the expertise it took to take that picture with the right light and the color. You, Joe, are a photographic artist... You understand the nuance of color like nature does it's own self. Talented and expressive in all that you do. Alice, your mind is beyond beautiful. An intricate work of art all it's very own. Love, Betty |
