| You all probably know this; but I just discovered that if guests sign in to my www.dkchristi.com (which is actually a webs.com site redirect) and sign into the site, there is an opportunity to post book covers, ( or author picture) and author information. I just posted my own info there and discovered two other authors had done the same. I'd like to invite you to do so as well. My site doesn't get the traffic I'd like, but it does provide a place for additional exposure. Once Ghost Orchid becomes the best seller on which I rest my future as an author, my page stats might pick up! :-) |

| I forgot to add that I think it shows the most recent two sign ins when the site is opened; and it shows on every page of the web site. |

| I think for this to work, you have to have the sidebar activated. I did that by accident once......and liked it. |

| Thanks for the comment, Ann. It captures the essence of the story with no input from me. That's an artist who read the story........I only hope it captures the imagination of potential readers. It's time...

| I attempted to create an account using my edonharpe username, and it said there is already a user by that name. So I guessed at a password, signed in, and found that this was a site I'd created back in 2006, about a month or so after my first book was published. I'd completely forgotten about it. I'll go back in and redo it, and maybe use it as a promotion tool for the Rinky Dink book, as well as for Sundown Two. Can't keep up with everything, I suppose. |

| I have sites all over the Internet myself, some for which I've forgotten how to sign in! I still find my best promotions are newspapers and signings. I keep plugging away at the Internet though because it is supposed to be "the place." I think I like redroom.com; but I am insulted that they won't post me as an author. I've looked through other authors on that site, and many have fewer published works than me. Don, are you an "author" at redroom or a "member?" |

| I don't know, DK. I joined when you posted about it, but haven't checked back in lately. I suppose I should. I'll take a look and let you know. |

What is their criteria? Is it publisher or number of books? I just looked there and it appears to be a promotion site for commercially published books. So I would guess they have a list of publishers they consider commercial, and grant "membership" status to the rest. Does your new book not qualify? You're with a commercial press now, right? |

| Yes, when I loaded Ghost Orchid, the publisher was in their list. Publish America was not in their list when I joined originally. I read their criteria once and couldn't find it again. It seemed a bit subjective and favored the major pubs. However, if you had an award, received reviews from the New York Times and Publishers Weekly, that would be taken into consideration among their criteria. Also, if you were a jounalist with an extensive background, that also mattered. They are trying to maintain a high profile without the self-pubs bringing them down. So they have the catch all "member" category that anyone can join to keep the "authors" elite. If I'm in the "elite," that's just fine. When I'm not in the "elite," I feel otherwise :-) It's not really a big deal, the ole ego wants recognition is all. |

| I just received an email from webs.com:
Congrats - Your site with username shelaghwatkins is in the Top 1% of all sites created this week!
Then they asked me to buy a domain name! Why do I suddenly not feel quite so special as I did when I read the opening sentence? |

| Oh well, take the praise anyway. You could still be in the top 1% - even if they want to use that status to sell you something....... |

| Thanks DK!
One thing I would say to newcomers about websites and promoting on the web, from my experience, website traffic, video views, blog visits etc. can be high without any increase in book sales. Just a thought. |

| You are right Shelagh. I've done lots of promotion on the web but haven't seen any increase in sales. I'm of the opinion that the people viewing those sites are those promoting their own books. Finding a site that promotes to the general public is what we all want. Other than Amazon, there doesn't appear to be many choices. Getting Google hits hasn't done much either. |
