| I think some of us got carried away on Rhett's thread. Maybe we should move to our own.
As I watched all those clips with Charlie Pride in them, I started to wonder if I could find a video of him singing this one. Couldn't, but I did find the lyrics. Note who wrote them:

| David put the movie, To Hell and Back, on this night. Audie Murphy was a humble person with genuine heart and soul. Love, Betty |

| And I'm re-watching Gunsmoke. Lynn's father-in-law has become a fan after reading my book. He took the DVD home with him tonight after dinner, so I put in my old VHS so I could watch it, too.

| I don't recall ever hearing that song, Ann. Speaking of Gunsmoke, remember this guy? |

| The face is familiar, Dick, but I can't connect it to either the 1952 movie or the TV series. I did some searches and have a few guesses, but I still don't have the answer.

| It must be Dick smiling with no pipe and a hat. Add a few pounds for good measure. No need to thank me. I am Sherlock Holmes, reincarnated.

| As a small boy I remember watching a western TV show called Gun Smoke, Marshall Matt Dillon I think was the marshalls name. But thats all I remember. I was more a Loyd Bridges fan. Sea Hunt was my favorite show back then oh and the Whirly Birds. |

| Yes, the TV show starred James Arness as Mat Dillon. The Gunsmoke I watched last night was a movie starring Audie Murphy.
Here is a rather nice photo from that film. I particularly enjoyed this scene:

| Yes, I remember Sea Hunt. Apparently you can watch it anytime you choose, just by going here:

| Dear Dick, I think that is Ken Curtis, aka Festus Hagin. Love, Betty |

I had the wrong cowboy. When I first looked at the picture, I thought it might ba a younger version of this actor, who was a co-star in the movie, and an actor Dick might remember from other venues: |

| Betty hit the jackpot. My old friend Gabe Ward of the Hoosier Hot Shots told me about making movies with Ken Curtis when he was a clean-cut star. Gabe said that during quiet times Curtis and a fellow from Arkansas would clown around talking with crazy accents. That was where he developed his Festus character, probably never dreaming he would one day be playing a scruffy guy on TV. Gabe said Curtis made more money playing Festus than he ever did from movies. |
