| Hello, all. I have been away too long. I took some time to "hole up" after losing my sister and mom. Now, I am having a blast writing a new novel. I am trying to get it into rough draft form by mid-September, then off to the agent for a read-through. Seems I had forgotten a most important thing--writing is fun. Forget all the worries about finding a good publisher (again), or pleasing anyone else. This one is for me!! My political novel is still making the rounds in NY, according to the agent, so I am off to other projects. Love to all of you. I'll stop in to say howdy from time to time--between bouts of all-out, full-on writing. My best, Rhett |

| It seems such a long time since we discussed food with Pam and Zada. Maybe we should start a new conversation about s'uthern food. What is your favourite recipe? |

| Glad to see you, Rhett. Please don't bring cats or biscuits. Hate 'em both. How about some kielbasa and ciabatta bread instead? |

| I've tried writing wearing various hats and costumes but never a pink cameo-print hat. I would not want to over excite my Gay neighbour who often see's me in the garden on a sunny day putting pen to paper. So I'll stick to my red floral cotton frock and high heal's thank you. Ooops another hole in my pantyhose!!!! |

| Ya'll crack me up. Really. The camo hat is to help me get into character for a section of the novel I am currently writing. The character is at a NASCAR race. The hat is camoprint pink with the words "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity". I am certainly learning a lot about this racing thing. I can tell you more about the novel later on....just know that I am laughing a lot and having fun. |

| Rhett, I've been having trouble functioning without the cat biscuits. I've had to double the daily glass of Scotch.

| Dump NASCAR and have him at an Indy Car race. Much better racing, or doesn't the race enter into the story? |

It would have never occurred to me to dress as a character to aid the writing, what a great idea. Do others here do that or similar things to get in the mood of a scene or character? |

Indy racing would be a bit high-brow for this fellow, Dick. He's more the down-home mechanic good-ole-boy. Plus, the merchandise is so much more fun to research. |

| I've never tried the dressing as my character thing, but I love the idea, and know just what I will do. Thanks for the idea Rhett! You guys know that I am up for any conversations about food - I had kind of let them go because I was afraid we were spending too much time on food and not enough on writing...LOL |

| As long as the hat does't have pink elephants, you'll be okay. The puppy is a real cutey! |

| Dear David, I know a few girlie rednecks. They are, of course, not the young girlie rednecks of men's dreams. They are the older, more expanded version with a lot less teeth. Nevertheless, they do walk the walk, and can be persuaded with okra or a bunch of collards to cook you a bodacious dinner. God only knows what comes after dinner. I do not know anyone who would tell. You are a brave man. I hope you know about the chewing tobacco. It would not be fair to leave that as a surprise. Love, Betty |

| A few years ago, Susan gave me a Jerry Jeff Walker CD for Christmas. I started reading off the songs. When I said "Redneck Mother," my son David lept from his chair, grabbed the CD from my hands, and while he got the cellophane off, my son-in-law, Chris ran to the CD player and opened it. they put the disc in, and we all began singing along at the top of our lungs, well all of us except my 20-odd year-old nephew and my daughter-in-law from upstate New York. they just sat with their mouths open and stared at us like we'd lost it or something. I can't understand why. Edit. I found a better video. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/80573309/ Ann
