Cross Roads
A. W. Nutter

Night so heavy it’s hard to take a breath
The very air anticipating a death
Must not falter must remain awake
I beg of you God my soul to take

In trembling hands I bury my face
Time slowing down to a frightening pace
Standing at the crossroad a gun in my hand
Forgive me God this wasn’t planned

A voice whispers softly into my ear
Put the gun down son there’s nothing to fear
I heard your lonely voice crying in the dark
Your soul now bears the Holy Ones mark

I can’t go on Lord reliving my pain
Spending each night cowering in shame
You’re my creation one of many sons
The choice remains yours, lay down your gun

Darkness cannot exist in the presence of light
Lay your head on my shoulder; it’s my turn to fight
Suddenly I realized he had found me worth saving
Redeemed by my Creator, my Savior the King
