Self Publishers Who've Made the Big Time

Gol' durn, they left me out! Interesting article, Malcolm, and there have been many others in the past. Edgar Alan Poe and Jack Kerouac leap to mind.

Good article Malcolm. Mostly we need to write, get the material into the world in some form.

A few years ago if I had done a search on amazon for my name, I would have come up with nothing. Now there are six books, my two with PA, two anthologies, and two books which use me as a reference. Also, my website doesn't bring a lot of sales but has given me some good response to my writing.

The other day I searched on my granddaughter, Megan Troestler, on amazon, and sure enough, the anthology Forever Friends came up. I emailed her father and told him to have her check it out, besides reminding him that she can put "published author" on college and scholarship submissions.

To me, it shows that what is most important is getting that work out there somehow somewhere. You never know where it may lead.

it can happen. I know several writers who have made that "jump".

That said, I'm not sure it's the goal of all self-published writers to get called up to the bigs. Some people like being their own publisher and/or have goals more compatible with that scale.

I'm an example of that, Lin. After a couple of health problems sidelined me for a two years I had no desire for anything to do with the rat race other than selling short stories to magazines, which is low key unless a person makes it otherwise.

Let's hope all of us will be included in the next version of that article for 2009!
