PostSubject: Poetry   Thu Mar 22, 2018 2:33 pm

21 March 2018 was World Poetry Day. I wrote this poem to share about positivity as it relates to We Are The World Blogfest which I am a member.

We Are the World

We can make a difference
Yes, you and I can
We can start with reverence
For our fellow man

We can be an example
By lending a hand
Or sharing a sample
Of a kind man and his band

We are the world
Let’s give positivity a chance
Care to give it a whirl
Come on let’s dance

#WorldPoetryDay

21 March 2018

It may be a little silly or sound immature but its what came to my head at the time.

Does anyone have a poem they wrote, is appropriate for a general audience, and would like to share?

Lynn,

Very well done.

I wish I were a poetess.  My maternal grandmother was one.

We were given a school assignment to write  poems and my brother griped about it.   My mother tried to show him how easy it was and said,  "There once was a turkey who loved to strut, but he ended up in a farmer's gut."

The teacher did not like it.

Thanks for your kind words.

I'm nowhere near what I've seen others write but when the mood strikes me, I pen a little something.

That's cool that you have someone in your family that is a poetess.

I think the teacher had his/her sense of humor removed. I think that's so true it's funny. Thanks for sharing it.

I wrote this in 2005 for the Stories of Strength anthology to raise money for charities in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was republished in 2011 in Soul Feathers to raise money for MacMillan cancer support.

It was very well received at the time of writing, but twelve years on, there is not the same feeling of hope. Race relations have not improved and gun crimes have escalated. It's a bit demoralising. Your poem is very upbeat and has a positive vibe. Do you have any more?

I wrote that one for World Poetry Day. I've written a couple I did for a poetry group based on the assignment. Here's one:

Where are you?

Listen close
What do you hear?

Pop, pop, pop
Ping, ping, ping
That’s what I want
Please, please, please

Squish, squash, squish
Squeak, squawk, squeak
Bap, bap, ding
Splash

Sizzle, swirl, sizzle
Swish, twirl, swish
Clang, plop, ding
Thanks

Now your nose
What do you smell?
Corn Dogs, Cotton candy
Popcorn and caramel

Open your eyes
What do you see?
Wow there’s a carousel
Looking at me

PostSubject: A Man named Trump   Tue Mar 27, 2018 6:41 am

There once was a man named Trump
Who talked of cleaning the Swamp
Instead of clean, he chose to demean
All those who resisted his pomp.
He wanted a parade, but was just a charade
to bolster his ill-gotten gains.
He proposed a wall with a lot of gall,
to pacify his gullible base.
It mattered not at all that it was a disgrace
to debase another race.
His desire for sex, left women vexed
when used and cast aside
His several wives and those that survived,
could not be held at bay.
For those he could not sway,
had much to say,
about his philanderous ways.
