Gone with the Wind Empty
PostSubject: Gone with the Wind   Gone with the Wind EmptyMon Aug 28, 2017 12:08 pm

A theatre in Memphis cancelled a showing of "Gone with the Wind" because of political correctness. Hattie McDaniel was the first black actress to win an academy award for her supporting role as Mammy in the film. American liberalism seems to be in a flux, with dire consequences for American history.

It is sad and sickening at the same time to see the changes happening in America.  There was a time when we could laugh at ethnic jokes.  There are peculiarities associated with many cultures or ethnic backgrounds.  Some comedians use their own culture oddities to entertain their audience.  Today, one is not supposed to notice differences in color or even in manner of speech.  Talking with an accent can easily identify a person’s heritage or even their region of residence.  We are all unique and that uniqueness is special.   We should never deny our heritage or feel compelled to be like everyone else.

" Gone With The Wind," was an awesome film full of history, it should not be forgotten
how else are we to learn about the past ? Hattie McDaniel was a great actress.. We are in for
ignorant people who want to destroy statues and history..

Using religion to justify praise or debase is nothing new.  IMV it is sickening.  Adding politics to it is even worse.  No one forces you to see a film or look at art.  Fortunately we still have the right to choose what we hear and see.  Statues or even Icons were once a common way to honor someone of importance  who did something of significance.  We have the Lincoln memorial and the Washington monument that represents an important part of our history.  We tend to memoralize what is commonly accepted as good.  On the  other hand we tend to ignore what may be a blight on our history. Where are the monuments of Native Ameicans?  The massacres (holocaust) of the natives is not something one wants to be reminded of and these atrocities are even ignored (not taught) in school.  The image of Jesus hanging on a cross is repulsive to some while to others it represents something good.  The issue of Confederate General monuments was not a problem until recently.  IMV it became  an issue when bigotry raised its ugly head with politics.  Flying the confederate flag is an act of defiance.
