| Abe and anyone else - this is an inquiry I had from a free lance reporter who seems to be doing a pod cast about her father who has a connection to Don Stephens. She made contact with me and wishes to make contact with Abe. What do you all think? Hi - Thanks for getting back to me. My timeframe is fairly open-ended, as I am going to be cutting the podcast once I've reached the end of the story. I messaged Abe on Facebook, but the algorithm being what it is, it doesn't look like he saw my message (I suspect it went to his 'other' folder). We don't have any mutual friends, so it's unlikely to show up in his main messages view. Would it be possible to speak to you via phone either this week (what's left of it) or sometime next week? Thanks, RF On Thu, Aug 10, 2017 at 1:17 PM, DK wrote: - Quote :

Hello, Ms. Christi - My name is RF Jurjevics and I am a freelance journalist based in New York City; I sent an email to what is possibly an old account of yours (dkch@netzero.net), so am trying you again here in the hopes that this message will reach you. Recently I have started putting together the foundation for an episodic podcast, and the story I am working on happens to involve a man I believe you knew, the late author Donald Stephens. There is an odd link between Mr. Stephens and my father that is at the crux of this podcast, which is why I am reaching out. I would really like to speak with you, if you are available and willing. I am also trying to get in touch with an author named Abe F. March, but his website appears to have lapsed (it's now filled with Japanese advertisements!). If you know of an appropriate way for me to contact him, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much, RF Jurjevics -- RF Jurjevics www.bigcreaturemedia.com rf@bigcreaturemedia.com

| DK. Feel free to give her my email address. I didn't see her post on FB and as she mentioned, my website I didn't renew considering it a waste of time and money. I was and continue to be a fan of Don Stephens. |

| DK. I made contact with RF and we spoke by phone. She is trying to make a case against Don Stephens for plagiarism, claiming that he lifted entire passages from her father's book and that of others. I find that difficult to believe. It is especially sad when a person is not here to defend themselves. When I inquired, by email, as to the purpose of her inquiriy, her reply this morning was:
"The scope of the story is both about Mr. Stephens' plagiarism but also about how it happens, why, etc. He is the first part of puzzle, but is not the entirety of the scope.
But yes: this was plagiarism. In some cases, 100% of the text was lifted by this man and passed off as his own. He stole an entire book from my father and from several other writers. The proof is there. I can provide more of it, but, if you'd rather not speak about this further, that is of course your decision.
Thanks, RF"
Note: I seek truth in everything I hear and read, even when the truth hurts. Having said that, I am not inclined to take the word of one person over another without proof, especially when the person accused cannot present their side of the story. |

| Don had a very troubled mind, Alice. As Abe said, he's not here to defend himself, although the evidence against him is very strong, which makes him all the sadder. |

| Just received the third call from RF. I took a stand in defense of Don. The biggest argument is that he is not here to defend himself. Speculation may provide reasons, but it is still no assurance about truth. I referred her to Don's first book: "Bearkiller". Don was knowledgable about the Native Americans as it was part of his heritage. He wrote things he knew about as with his experience in S.E. Asia. Others with simiar experiences may have provided input for his writings. That is an assumption, but I prefer to believe he had honorable intentions. In my conversations with him, he expressed a desire to record his experiences. In every book he wrote, he gave tribute to his wife. Example: "To my Lynnie, MyLove, My Life, My world." I am of the opinion that his love for his wife made it a mercy killing. He knew that it was murder and that he would spend the rest of his life behind bars. The only solution was to take his own life at the same time. That is speculation on my part, but an opinion based on comments he made to me about his wife's condition and the pain she was suffering. Without the love of his life, his life was over.
My gut feeling leads me to defend Don. I considered him a friend and still hold fond memories about him. |
