On FB and Plaxo, I received notification of Don Stephen's birthday tomorrow.  It is a "noreply" notification and therefore one cannot inform them that he is deceased.  That also happened recently with Carol Trostler's birthday.
I don't mind the notifications in that it brings to mind the good memories of the friends who have departed this life.  I am still enjoying the books Don wrote.  I am most likely one of his biggest fans.  He was not just a "good" writer, but IMV, a "great" writer.  Too bad that he could not have been published in a traditional manner where his work would have been exposed to more people.

I agree about traditional publishing overlooking some of the best - and publishing some really poor stuff that has mass appeal.  I don't have much faith in the "masses" these days.

I often think of those who are no longer on this earth that posted faithfully to this board.  I miss their support and words of wisdom - or challenges.

The forum is mostly quiet, DK. It makes it easier to run. Lots of the members who left still visit and read the posts. They prefer to be in control of their Internet discussions on facebook, rather than on a forum where they have little control over the discussions.

Agree, Shelagh.  There are some that continue to "peek in" to see what is happening.  In some ways I can understand that.  Getting involved in some conversations can be stressful.  Politics and religion top that list.
Even with those who "peek in" they are attracted to the forum and the members.  I think that is a positive thing.  In the past some have threatened to leave and or said they were leaving only to return after a period of time.  There is something special about this forum and hope it continues.
Doing a search brings up subjects that past members along with those deceased, left memorable comments.

I don't like Facebook at all.  I find it confusing.  I don't know where comments are coming from and "liking" anything puts it in the news feed forever - same with unknown "friends."  I always loved this forum and especially when it was lively.
