Yes your life is affected by others you may not know. I am a member of the Gallup poll. We are picked by different things
in our lifestyle, age, etc being some. What the Gallup poll does: Business people decided on many things based on the findings of the poll. Many times retail items are made, or set aside depending on the poll.
What kind of people are we? we are told we are a cross-section of the population. Those who are for, those who are against, and those who just can't make their mind up. You have all read my views on many things. I'm not sure where I fit into the list of types of people? I wonder if they have a group who takes a poll about who should be on the poll? and after we are polled, do others pick out of our poll what the poll should be? Now I know somebody is making money off the poll, after all, somebody has to be getting paid for all the work...Makes one wonder...do some people pay the poll for favors, like, "This is the best time to buy a new car? Nah, I know we on the poll don't get paid. So who pays for all the gathering daqtd, printing it and sending it out...the paper alone has to cost a ton of money...they have to have money coming in from someplace? Whoever is behind the poll, polls everything from dogs having worms to sex in your back yard. I wonder who makes up the questions? I think many of the questions are on the, "Who gives a damn list."

I polled myself on this question, "What is a normal cross section of the population...am I a part of the normal cross section?
I think if they had asked, "Are you a fiction writer?" They may have rejected me as a normal part of the cross section of the population...after all, most of our thinking is fiction. Most people don't understand, fiction is more believable than reality, if you don't think so, ask any politician, they use it all the time.

Dom,
I think that Poll taking is rigged.  It is said of courtroom lawyers that they should not ask a question of a witness unless they know what answer to expect.  The questions asked in polls tend to be those that will elicit the desired result.
On the I-Net, most everything we do is traced and a profile made of us.  Data gathered via the I-Net on various subjects include what people buy or seek to buy based on searches we make.  This data is available to Poll takers who can determine the type of people they want to poll with anticipated results.
If you search for a particular product you will start receiving offers from vendors who carry this product.
There are Dupers and Dupees.  The Dupers can promote their brand of religion that is often associated with political views.  There are areas of the country that are predominantly conservative Christian.  Taking a poll in these areas will get the results desired.  Claiming that it is the result of a National Poll is duping.  They dupe people into believing that most everyone feels a certain way and therefore it is the right way to think.
So yes, our lives are affected by others.  Challenging what we hear is important.
People can say anything.  Unless challenged, it may be accepted as truth.  People are easily duped and I believe there is a profile of the dupees they wish to target.

I believe you are correct Abe. I answered the question thing once...after that I decided not to answer future questions...here is why: "All the questions had to be answered by checking, A, B, C, or none.
No chance to explain anything in between. As you know, Abe, I'm an in between sort of guy."

I think most polls are a proverbial waste of energy but statisticians love them and swear by them.
