Moving Empty
PostSubject: Moving    Moving EmptyWed Dec 02, 2015 8:11 am

After thirty years it is time to move.  We are in the process of preparing our house for sale.
We have too many  pictures and stuff.

We know the kind of a  house we want and are ready to pounce when it comes on the market]
we want a rambler near our son.

Somehow, we got old Dave will be 73 come February.  He has been saying he will paint our house--two stories.  I say , "No! I will call the cops."

Go to it, Alice! Time spent with your granddaughter is far more worthwhile than time spent painting the house!

12/2

                   Alice..

I know you'll find what you want, Spring is a great time to sell, from what
I have seen on HGTV when you sell your house all the extra bric a brac, pictures, furniture all
have to be put in storage so people will see there is plenty of room for a family, also a great
thing to do is when you know they'll show the house no joke bake cookies, it gives and smells
like a homy family's home, also look on Zillow Real Estate on line...

                                                               Love Joe... Very Happy

Moving is not easy.  People ARE STRANGE.   They want no wall paper, wall borders , drapes,  pictures.

Your home is the culmination of thirty years of upgrading, decorating and furnishing. You built it yourself and it was empty when you first moved in. The furniture on show has been collected over many years; the wallpaper has been stripped and renewed; the flooring has been replaced; the kitchen has been upgraded. New buyers want to do the same. They want to envision your home as it will appear when empty. The less they see of your handiwork, the easier it is for them to picture the way it will look after they have furnished the house.

If you really want to sell and make the top price for your home, pay for a local tradesman to paint the house from top to bottom in neutral colours. If the wallpaper is sound, the decorator can paint over it. Only put back a few of your pictures to personalise the room. Leave surfaces clear of clutter, but add fresh fruit in a bowl/vase of flowers to the dining table, and lamps, which can be switched on while viewing, to small tables. Create a feeling of spaciousness and light. Allow prospective buyers the same thrill of imagining the home furnished that you experienced thirty years ago.

Moving can be a difficult experience.  I did it at least 30 times and although I became an expert in packing and re-settling, it was still difficult.  Adjustments were required at each location.  Then there were the little things of reading meters for a final bill for electricity, water and heat along with disconnecting of telephone, change of address, etc.  Then setting up accounts at the new location.  Lots of little details that are a nuisance.
Suggest you make a list of things to do.  Make the list as you think about them and do not try and rely on memory.
Keep in mind that the things you want to do at your new home don't have to be done overnight.  Relieve the stress by doing one thing at a time and not rushing.  If you have questions, ask.  People are willing to help.

Abe,

We will have ourselves moved. Packing is too  difficult.  Out company moved us every time but twice.  'We could  be having  a party the night before, then  a truck would roll up to our door pack everything up and roll away.
Once I had to leave bare footed because  they had packed my shoes.  LOL

Glad to hear that Alice.  Having a mover saves much work along with exhaustion and back pain.
