God Bless those serving...Keep them safe.
God Bless those that served...All gave some, some gave all.
God Bless those that will serve...May it be in a time of peace.

WHAT IS A VETERAN:
Whether active duty, retired or reserve.  Is someone who at one point in his life, Wrote a blank check made payable to
"The Country of the United States of America", For an amount of "up to and including their life."

I didn't write this last piece, but I believe in it and wanted to pass it on.

Good post, Don.  Those blank checks were written by many and for some of us we are fortunate that those checks were not cashed.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1872 - 1918

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Great poem, Shelagh.  When I visited Flanders Field I had the poem with me and it meant much more.  To see all those crosses lined up so neatly was a thing of beauty.  To understand that beneath each cross was someone's son who never made it home was sad.  They deserve to be remembered.  For all we know, their spirit lives on and perhaps, just perhaps they are aware of how we honor them.  It's the least we can do.
