Agree with Don.  I like it.  It is uncluttered and reflects well on the author.

dk, here are a few facts on marketing:

You have about eight seconds to hook the viewers attention.  Don't sell the product, sell yourself, and, or an idea. Your site tells what you have done with the book....how does that hold a viewers attention?
I have not read the book, so I know nothing about it...what you post has to hook the viewer...grab hold of what they want to know. Example: "How to hook a man in ten seconds." Written in fiction format, the main character of the story plays out proven secrets the author now shares with women seeking true love. Yada, yada, yada...

I agree with you, Dominick. Perhaps you might listen to the radio interview or read the book and provide me with a hook.  Thanks.

I used to teach algebra in High Schools.

As to your website:  Websites are sitting far out in dark space...nobody knows they are their.  There are two ways of letting people know you are alive. The first is to spend tens of thousands of dollars, or as we little folks have to do, follow a plan that has been proven to work...here are the steps;

1) Create a web site.

2) Open a storefront on a drop shipper like Cafepress.com  These drop shippers allow you to submit your goods for direct shipment to your customers. Drop shippers establish a storefront for you, and you can link it to your website.

3) Market your goods on Facebook, and other social media. On Facebook, make friends who read, and have 200 plus friends. Every time you post on your FB, it shows on these others.

4) Create an eBay storefront.

5) Start a news letter with a link to your site, FB, and storefront.  Don't talk about your book in your news letter...talk about thinks people will save...health foods, cooking, etc. this will help make your name known.

Take an interest in those on your FB, and other sites. Get to know them, and get them to know you.

As you move along you will see how it is going, and the direction it is moving...build on that direction. read everything you can find on the net about how to market your goods. Get your name into everything you can.

My FB is 99.99% good looking women. I have been building friends on FB with one goal: These women spend money on their looks. They also have many friends on FB...My screen printing, and womens clothing will soon open. When it does open, some few thousand women will know about it.  My web page, store front, news letter, etc are in the works, and will not be open until everything is ready.

It takes work to market, but it is work that can be done will little, or no money. It can be done from your kitchen table. All of my garments will have tags like you find on garments in the best stores.
My target? women between the age of 18-40.

What is the target for your book?
I have not looked at your website...I don't know where it is...is it on the dark side of Mars? nobody know it's out there.

dk, before I listen to a radio interview, or read a book..."Some body has to put a hook in my upper lip."
It would be the same hook you send to an agent. The first few words have to hook the reader. Those running for president use hooks all the time...they tell people what they want to hear. "Vote for me, and I give you a blood oath...50% of all Federal jobs will be held by women."
There are more women than men...so I would go after the women voters. A hook is something people want to know about hear about...something they can relate to.
Would you talk to a farmer about farming, or bridge building?

Domenic, I fully agree that the first step is getting attention.  I'm reminded of the story about a mule named Kate.

The farmer needed money and decided to offer his mule for sale.  A neighbor came by and wanted information about Kate.  “Does she listen to commands?  Will she work well, etc?”
The farmer said:  “Kate will do everything you ask of her, but you need to talk nice to her.”
The neighbor bought Kate, harnessed her up and then said, “Go”
Kate just stood there.  After repeating the command and getting no result, he remembered what the selling farmer told him, so he walked up to Kate, put his arm around her neck, whispered in her ear telling her what a beautiful creature she was and how much he would appreciate it if she would move when commanded.  After the flattery, he again picked up the reigns and said, “Move!”  Kate just stood there.
About this time the selling farmer walked by and asked if everything was okay.
The farmer said:  “Kate won’t listen to commands.  I did what you said and talked nice to her, but she still won’t move.”
The selling farmer picked up a piece of wood and hit Kate over the head and then he said:  Let’s go Kate, my love, and Kate started moving.  He turned to the buying farmer and said, “Kate will do whatever you want, but first you got to get her attention.”

I kept my website going with my own domain name for close to ten years. It cost little, but over time sank without trace from Google search engines, so I stopped renewing it.

Shelagh, I didn't renew mine either.  I am not aware if there were any sales attributed to the website.  For many, we followed what others did hoping that it was the right thing to do.  In hindsight, if sales are the objective for having the website then drawing attention to it is most important.

I like the Kate story Abe, the same is true in marketing.
Shelagh, the search engines stuff is a money game. The net is the same as the real world. You open a store, and if you don't advertise...nobody knows you are their. People open a store in the mall thinking the traffic will bring in business...it does not work that way. Stores in malls close all the time.
The key is the, "NITCH." Which group of all the millions of types of groups do you aim for? and how do you aim at them?

Say you publish a travel magazine...What would your NITCH be? People who travel...RV'ers.
You are a seller of sporting goods...would you target corn farmers? or people in sports?

find a NITCH you love, and learn everything about how to reach that NITCH.

The question is, "How do you reach these people on the web? Follow the things I told Alice to do on this thread. Is it work? YES. But if you do the work your cost is little. If you hire others the cost is high. The net is a money business. Learn how it works, and learn how to do it yourself. I have a friend in L.A. He has about twelve things on you tube. he makes about $6,000 a month paid to him because of the hits he gets...hits are people looking at his short "How to video's."
To not spend money advertising, and getting people to your site one has to do the same stuff the web does. The web has computers do it for them...you and me must do it manually.

Here is a suggestion. You have a group of friends on Published Authors you know well. Pull them together. You know their weak, and strong points. set up your own on the net marketing company.
Give each member one task only...You are all smart people. If you guys pull together you can sell a ton of your books.

Alice, you have a pretty site, but it does not give what people want. There are 10,000,000 people you can reach who have Parkinson's. That is a big NITCH. I'm sure you could sell a book to a small number of these...say 100,000?
You can buy an email list of people who have this disease. There are companies that will do a mail-out for about $35 USD a month.
Here are just a few things I picked from the net in minutes;

Gaucher disease may protect against Parkinson's disease-related color visual impairment
Science DailyNov 10 10:26 AM
Parkinson’ s Disease (PD) patients have a five-fold greater risk of carrying genetic mutations in the ?-glucocerebrosidase gene (GBA), which are commonly associated with Gaucher disease (GD). Patients with both PD and GD tend to experience earlier onset of PD and more serious cognitive changes than PD patients without the mutations. A new study suggests that GD or the presence of GBA mutations...

What Telemedicine Can Do For Your Aging Parents
The Huffington PostOct 23 11:29 AM
What do you do if you can't get your aging parent to a doctor's office because of his or her disability? What do you do if your parent needs to see a specialist who may be hundreds of miles away? A new area of medicine known as Telemedicine may be the answer to your problem. Berkeley Lab scientists identify genetic factors that influence neurological disorders and body weight
News-Medical-NetNov 12 03:14 AM
Many neurological disorders, such as Parkinson' s disease and Alzheimer's disease, are marked by impaired motor skills. In addition, growing evidence suggests there's a link between some neurodegenerative diseases and body weight. A recent NIH study, for example, found that adults who are obese or overweight at midlife may be at risk for earlier onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Renewed hope for the brain-injured

Alice,
do those other things I suggested...you have a good book. People will buy it if they can relate to you. You are one of them. You know what their life is like. You talk their talk.Your news letter will be welcome. Just make sure the title of the email has these two word, "Parkinson's disease."
You can do all the things you need to do in your rob, and slippers. It gets no better than that.
