How often does one use their middle name?  When I was a kid, I thought middle names were used when one was in trouble.  When my mother addressed me with my first and middle name, I could expect the lash.  How often was your middle name used?

I  have never liked my middle name.
It is Mamie. I would have  preferred Marie.  Even worse was my brother's middle name of Mansford.
The names were our maternal grandparents names.

My mother had postpartum depression which probably explains her inability to name or dress me appropriately.
She gave me her left over clothes which were too large for me and styled for an adult rather than a child.
I am having a childhood now and also have a propensity to acquire too many clothes.  lol

Alice, I never liked my first name.  Imagine going under the handle of Abraham Firestone March.
My middle name was my mother's maiden name.  When I did my geneaology I discovered it was a common thing.  My grandfather's middle name was his mother's maiden name.  Merl Benz Firestone.

Some people don't have middle names.  My wife doesn't have one.  That was a problem when filling out forms and they asked for a middle name.  Usually one used (NMI).  When they insisted on a middle initial or name she used her maiden name as her middle name.

My grandaughter was given the name "March" as her middle name.  I like that.  Both of my dauthers hyphenated their married name, i.e, Caroline March-Long.

I tried to go by my middle name Allen in high school. It didn't take. Everyone kept  calling me Charlie. That's interesting about your middle name, Alice. My wife's middle name is Marie and she doesn't care for it. We chose to use middle names in naming our children after family members.

Charlie,
We did the same thing.  Becky has Alice and Dan has David for middle name.

I have two middle names...John and Joseph.  Growing up I was always called Donny or DJ...If I heard Donald John Joseph, I knew I was in deep du-du.

Don, it would seem that you had the same or similar experience with the use of first and middle names.

When I was just a little kid, my family called me , "Sonny."  I didn't know it was just a nick name. I was seven before I learned how strangers knew my name?
