| Should we discuss our childhoods or what? It seems like we have hit rock bottom. |

| The "official" who grabbed the girl and threw her over and dragged her out of the room concerns me.
I wish I had not seen such things
I had very violent grade school teachers who routinely beat whomever they dissapproved of. It was a poor example of how to behave. |

| Words beaten to death by the media. At the top of my list is “Boots on the Ground”. I don’t know who started it, but it is beaten to death. I’m waiting to hear someone say, “Boots in the Air” instead of Airmen or Flyers. “Boots on the Ground” could infer that there is no one inside those boots. “Ground Troops” is a term understood by everyone and is just two words instead of four words. Even the word “ground” could be eliminated. When one speaks of “Troops” it is understood that one is talking about foot soldiers. Another overused expression is “Anytime soon.” Are there any over used expressions that bother you? |

From what I saw, he tried to get her to listen and behave properly. She would not. She held onto the chair when he tried to lift her to escort her out. She fought him. What followed was clearly her fault. Now he's been fired. How many cops do you think will volunteer to work in schools after that. |

"At the end of the day." The media using "media" as a singular noun. Not spoken, but newscasters delivering the news of a hurricane or blizzard while standing outside in the bad weather. "Details at eleven." If it's news, why do we have to wait? Coming to you direct from..." No, it isn't. It's coming through countless feeds, satellites, cables... "This just in." After being written by a copywriter, edited by an editor, and approved be the legal staff and acceptability overseers. And every Republican debate beginning with, "Mr. Trump..." |

| Al, I'm with you on this. I don't think I'd make a good police officer with today's standards. I would most likely get fired. Teaching our children respect for authority is lost. They think it is cool to defy the law and the parents do nothing to change that attitude. |

| Maybe the parents should have been called and asked to remove their non compliant child from the room. Thank you for your replies. |

| I am remembering a principal who had no respect. He asked our son to give him a book. Dan refused to comply. The principal called me. I said "Give him the book, Dan." Dan immediately complied.
End of problem. Dan is a college graduate , controller of A COMPANY. Has CMA, going for CPA. |

| Why couldn't the teacher and the cop have gotten on either side of the desk and scooted her out into the hallway?
I am a child advocate, A parent, former school board chairperson.

| Alice, I agree that every situation is complicated and that is the main reason that we shouldn't second-guess those who were there. We see what they want us to see and opinions are formed without having all the facts.
Yes, transparency is another word that is over-used. In the case of the kid in school, I don't think we had transparency. |

I doubt they expected her behavior. By the time they realized how she would react, it was too late. Hindsight is 20/20. |

| I used to get invited into high schools to teach algebra. I teach the subject in less than one hour. In 1996 I put it into a book, and later on CD. I used to give these to kids for free. Over time I could see the nature of new kids starting H.S. was changing...about my fourth year I refused to teach. My respect for the kids was at zero. I still help those who I meet that want help, but I have seen very good teachers leave the field of teaching because there are some bad kids who control the class rooms. If the teachers try to take control, one or two kids will lie about the teacher..."he/she tried to have sex wit me etc," Many good teacher won't work Jr High, or High schools for that reason. In ten years we are going to have many dumb adults. I refuse to help educate bad kids...leave them stupid bad kids.
The thing with the cop...the girl hit him in the face before he pulled her out of her seat...there are other films. 100 kids protested the cop getting fired. Many blacks today know If they start trouble, they can pull out the race card, and get money. that bullshit has to stop. |

| I am sorry you quit teaching . The bad kids won. Teenagers are a difficult bunch to deal with now. In my day the grown-ups just whacked you until you complied with their wishes. I was happy when I became more creative. A bell choir group of teenage kids came to our church. We were to provide housing for them. During their performance, I looked them over and spotted an overweight saucy looking girl and her friend and thought I don't need them. After the program, guess who I got? They were so rude They said, "We don't want to come to your house. We want to go with the guys."
"Go ahead and go." I retorted.
"We can't, the teacher won't let us."
Finally I said , "Do you have any idea that I hate you just as much as you hate me?
Let's go home and get some ice cream."
That did it . They started to laugh and we became friends.
They needed a different approach. They said, "We got the best house." and I said, " I got the best kids." |

| I was on a school personnel committee, before chairing the board. I wish I had been a teacher. The kids and I would have had fun. |
