Propaganda Empty
PostSubject: Propaganda   Propaganda EmptySun Aug 23, 2015 11:01 pm

Why is it so easy to buy into propaganda without questioning?  Many claim that all politicians are liars, however if what the politicians say happens to agree with their views, then they accept it as truth.  We know that lies told often enough become truth in the minds of many.
Reading posts on FB where propaganda is proliferated is most frustrating and difficult to accept.
Example:  Yesterday it was said that windmills are causing the death of birds and therefore it is bad for the environment.  Have you ever seen a windmill?  Have you noticed how slow they rotate?  Have you ever seen a flock of birds flying in the thousands and never bump into one another?  Imagine a bird seeing a rotating windmill.  Do you really believe that they would fly into it?  If the windmills rotated so fast that the propeller could not be seen, the windmill would eventually launch itself or be torn from its foundation.  I suspect that this propaganda is deliberate and influenced by the producers of fossil fuels.  Some countries in Europe are now using 50 to 100 percent of solar and wind energy.  Europeans are conservation conscious and if birds were dying by the thousands due to a clean energy apparatus, they would stop it.

Another big issue on FB is the Iran Nuclear deal.  Propaganda is being proliferated by those opposed.  Even those one considers intelligent, buy into the propaganda and that is disturbing.  Have you wondered why there is opposition and who is strongly opposed?  A bit of research and common sense may help to enlighten.  Iran was mentioned by one poster as a rogue nation that couldn’t be trusted.  Those opposed to the Iran deal proliferate statements made by some in Iran that call for the destruction of Israel and call America the great Satan and we take offense to that. Why would we be called the great Satan?  Are we not a country that stands for liberty and justice for all?  Does that mean liberty and justice only for Americans?  Is there liberty and justice for all in America?

Americans love to hear the word “God” and there are those who believe a person using that word must be a good person.  It has become a political tool for votes.  Reagan used it effectively to become President.  GWB used it and got elected – twice.  He is reported to have said that God told him to invade Iraq.  Just this past week Trump used the word God in a speech in Alabama stating that he would be the biggest job-creating President that God ever created.   It would appear that “God” is the magic word for politicians.

List of UN Resolutions against Israel Vetoed by the US:

I find it strange that the world body, represented by the UN would find cause to condemn a country in violation of human rights and other atrocities, only to have it nullified by a Veto.
The countries holding Veto power are: (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States)

The power to veto a resolution by a world body makes a farce out of the UN.  The intent of the UN was honorable where world issues could be discussed and determinations made to take action.  Unfortunately, the voice of the world is limited to a selected few powerful countries.

America had no enemies in the Middle East before the creation of the State of Israel.  Strange that after WWII the Allies didn’t know what to do with the Jews.  Not one of the European countries wanted to take them.  The UK that had control of Palestine and partitioned a part of Palestine to create a home for the European Jews.  There were defined borders where it was expected that the Jews could live side by side with their Arab neighbors in peace, so it was believed.  Taking the land from the Arabs to create the Israeli State was not subject to agreement by the Arabs.  In effect, the land was stolen.  The new State may have worked had the Jews remained within the defined borders; however they wanted all the land of Palestine and thus began the conflict.  Expanding the defined borders was done in various ways, always with strong opposition ending in conflict.  Some of that conflict led to war.  The first public acknowledgment that Israel had the bomb (nuclear weapons) was made by Golda Meir when she declared that if it looked like Israel would lose the war, she was prepared to use the bomb.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Israel
Because Israel never officially declared that it has nuclear weapons, it was under no obligation to sign the non-proliferation treaty.  Therefore no inspections are allowed of its nuclear facilities.  In contrast, Iran signed the treaty.
Have you ever wondered why Iran calls America the “Great Satan?  http://www.truediscipleship.com/Gtopics/general487.htm

GWB called Iraq, Iran and N. Korea the “Axis of Evil”.  Name calling doesn’t make it so.  WWII axis of evil was Nazi Germany, Empire of Japan and Italy. The country I would term as the “Axis of Evil” wouldn’t be any of those mentioned above.

The UK just this past week announced it will open an Embassy in Iran.  The UK is taking the lead.  Why?  One can speculate that it has to do with the huge oil reserves of Iran, but there may be other reasons.  Perhaps it seeks appeasement for past blunder that led to today’s debacle in the M.E.  Any attempt to normalize relations is a step for peace even if there are ulterior motives.  Money makes the world go round.  Sanctions on Iraq tended to increase the hate of those who imposed them.  The citizens suffer the most.  Our actions determine that we are not even-handed in dealing with all countries.

Our military personnel are supposed to be used in defense of our country.  I can’t think of one instance since WWII where our actions were purely in defense of our country.  Many soldiers have died for economic speculation – Iraq being a prime example.

George Carlin was a stand-up comedian and used his comedy to make people to think.  In most of his routines he made a point of telling people to think and not to accept the BS being told to them.  His themes included the Bible.  He said that God, the all powerful, all knowing is said to have a Devine Plan.  So whatever you pray for or want to change, if it is not in HIS plan, it won’t happen.  Today people talk about prophecy and what is supposed to happen in the Middle East.  If it is going to happen anyway, why try and change it?  Either the prophecy is BS or you don’t really believe what you read.  The government even had a file on Carlin. http://theantimedia.org/fbi-had-12-page-file-on-george-carlin-because-he-made-jokes-about-government/

If I don’t write another word on this forum, I implore you to THINK.  Think like you never did before and question everything you hear.  Don’t accept what you hear in the news as fact.  Challenge it.  Dig for answers.  Don’t accept what I have written above as fact.  If interested, check it out for yourselves.  Answers are available if you seek them.

Note:  There are many books written about the Middle East.  The history is revealing.  No single author can be trusted as having the handle on the truth, however when one reads what is said by numerous authors and what they write is consistent, then it has credibility  A scholarly work will have references and that gives credibility to what they write.  Searching the I-Net on any subject provides numerous hits.  Information is available.  Searching for the truth in what is stated can be a challenging task.  THINK.

I'm sorry, Abe.  People do not need to think.  Media feeds them.  That is why propaganda does so well.  People get hold of one idea and won't let go.  They add a dash of prejudice, a dash of fear, a dash of greed, a dash of hate - you get the picture.  Fear rules the world - fear of loss, fear of scarcity, fear of losing what little one has.  Next comes greed.  And all in the name of God?  When love, compassion, acceptance and understanding rules the world - that will illustrate the hand of God.

DK.  It the more reason why people need to think for themselves.  Accepting things as they are is not the answer.  Have people become so lazy (or stupid) that they can't think for themselves?

I think it is a different form of ambition rather than lazy.  People only read what agrees with the position they already hold.  Then they put their energy into learning what will make them wealthy or appear so - the latest gadget, the newest car, the best place to live or vacation.  People are well versed on that.  Those middle class and below have little energy left to read and study - they are too busy with children, two or three jobs and just keeping their family going - add some education in a specific profession.

Before the advent of every piece of information at fingertips, information had more value.  It took energy to look up things.  Relaxation was reading, not turning on the IQ deflator or spending hours with video games.

I fall there too.  I get my information from the news on the Internet, PBS, NPR, MSNBC and on Sundays, FOX (the only one on my tv on Sundays).

The "unwashed masses" just live their daily lives, mostly in peace.  The world goes on around them but they are too busy with subsistence that they can't worry about politics or opinions.

We can thank the news media for the situation.  Instead of telling us the news, they wish to create the news.  So so ,sick of it.

"Oh" they yell, "the stock market is crashing.   Do not worry about it and do not look at your account."

If they would talk of something else, it would help.

We need to stand up against the televised propaganda machine.  How to do it is the question.
Love, Betty

Agree.  It often appears that the media assumes that the listener is stupid.  They will report an event and then someone will come on and tell us what we heard with their interpretation.  Reporting actual news events is true reporting.  Interpreting what happened is BS.  Listening the the same news event from various sources can provide more accurate insight.  Unfortunately it appears that one news agency will copy or repeat what the other said.  In Europe, there is more variety on news.  Unfortunately it comes in different languages and can be confusing to many.
Lowell Thomas was exceptionally gifted as a journalist.  His travels and on-sight reporting was captivating.  He was considered a "trusted" journalist.
