A friend, Peter Spatz, a man I worked with years ago, yesterday sent the following to me.  He never mentioned it when we worked together.

He sent me the following:

His Uncle was a Four-Star General.  His involvement with the bombing of Japan I found interesting.  He sent another reference that involved a Fokker airplane.  I wish I had known about this when I worked with Fokker aircraft.

There are stories yet to be told just waiting for a writer.  The story about Tom Trostler, Carol’s husband and his involvement during the Cuban Missile Crisis was never published.  A Ghost writer may have been the right avenue for that to be published.

For people who love to write and lack material, promoting your expertise may bring you much material.  There is an audience for books about war, war adventures and those involved.  A writer with acumen in that field may find a treasure of material lying dormant.
The same may be true for other venues.

I still feel bad about  Carol's book.  I wish she had self published.  It was a lot of work for naught.

It is tragic when stories are lost--especially stories that would resonate at a time when we need heroes. I may some day trace back my paternal two times grand uncle, Jose Sanchez Bregua, who was commander in chief of the armed forces in Spain and whose funeral in 1897 was the first motion picture filmed in Spain. I've seen clips of it, but there is no definitive full biography of this very modest man who rose through the ranks to the pinnacle of his country's armed forces. I've read chapters in books about him and still know very little about him. Likewise a great uncle on my mom's side of the family who emigrated here in his teens, eventually joined the army and rose to the rank of general. The latter supposedly saved the life of a governor's wife when he was a private and was sent presumably to either college or (more likely) one of the military academies for training by a grateful governor. Unfortunately I do not have his first name as my mom only knew him by his nickname--Carrua, which in Galician means "runt" an affectionate nickname by his family as he was supposedly quite small and thin in his early years. Those are two stories I would love to write about as both were inspirational leaders who deserve to be remembered. Unfortunately, at least one is lost to history.

If you know your great-uncle's surname and he was a General, you should be able to trace him, Victor.
