I decided to have a go with PPC on Amazon.com with my second novel 'Bittersweet Humiliation'. I started out with a budget of $150 and a PPC bid of .02. I targeted books, category thrillers. Results after a week were zero so I gradually increased the bid over the next few days to 80cents PC. I started winning click bids averaging 68 cents PC My spend is now at $25.16 I've made 28,822 impressions, 37 clicks, 41 detailed page views, and to date 1 sale at $2.99. This is just a part of my overall marketing strategy and I am prepared to spend the lot without sales, so I'm actually quite chuffed with any sale. I will keep you posted on progress in the hope that my experiences may help others in their choice of advertising mediums.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have found no sales method except listing in First Chapters Plus that benefited me. I paid $15 for the ads in FCP and garnered a major sales bump as well as adverising showing up at book sales sites, major and minor that were not there before.

I'll take a look at First Chapters Plus. I thought I'd have a go at Amazon CPC, seems to have launched with huge optimism, but so far most are calling it an extreme waste of money. |

I'm about half way through the campaign. PPC is currently at $80.00 but sales have reached $20.00 so it is slowly beginning to show some small yield. 1 return though which is slightly disappointing, but with Amazon allowing 14 days return on ebooks, it's not really surprising; human nature being as morally incorrupt as it is.

I note on facebook that people have many returns on Amazon, especially with series.

It is a crazy situation; 14 days return on an ebook download. Kind of like giving kids 14 days to return sweets, digested or otherwise. Who can argue with Amazon?

The sudden blip in sales seems to have abruptly stopped. Amazon give no access to reader demographics so no analytic benefit to be had.

As a sales tool I have to conclude that Amazon PPC is a huge waste of money and as a marketing tool it is useless as Amazon don't give you any access to analytics. Perhaps it's too soon for me to be using this type of marketing but Amazon recommend a PPC price of 0.02 cents as an auction bid, but in reality, the PPC auctions are running at about 0.60 to 0.85 cents to successfully win the spot. Seems to me that only Amazon can win at this game, they sell your product at a considerable markup and they make you pay to do it.
