Don, I admire you for your guts/courage to jump.  I never tried it and feel I missed out on that experience.  Reading about it helps and you have shared much of that in your books.

And I felt brave crossing the ocean in a sailboat - surrounded by sea and sky - no land in sight. Thank goodness for the immortality in younger years - that drive that sets us free from constraints.  Thus we have forever the memory

Today my joy is more from looking.  I think riding my bike during season in Florida is brave. I think jumping out of an airplane the ultimate expression of freedom - and beyond my comprehension.

When people ask me what it’s like, I always say it’s like riding a roller coaster.  The first time is like the first time the coaster drops over the first big hill.  It’s terrifying…then it’s over before you can comprehend it.  The second jump is like the second roller coaster ride, you’re asking yourself why…You did it once, you showed your nerve…  I sat in the plane on that second jump and said to myself, NO WAY…There is nobody on this plane big enough to get me out.  The jumpmaster said go and I went without hesitation and discovered something I truly loved and an adrenaline rush beyond belief.  I can remember the details of all 1,400.

There's a little, shallow river in N. Florida called the Withalacoochie (sp) that rushes to the Suwanee River in the spring over rocks and mini-rapids - remember, it's shallow.

However, in a kayak, trying not to tip because of walking among large alligators in such a case, it's a bit of an adrenalin rush - and there are also blue holes of major depth into the caves below Florida - that I used to compare also to roller coasters.  I could hear the rush of the approaching rapids and they sound major in the quiet of that little swamp river.  Going through was an adrenalin rush to keep the kayak pointed in the right direction and navigate the rocks.

No matter how many times I rode that river, my heart beat fast when I heard the rapids and snaked through the untidy waters.  Then, the reward was a ride so smooth and quiet that a bug on the water made a huge noise.  Then another rapid's sound would begin again -

DK, I loved your writing about the noise of the rapids.  I used to go down the Verde River in Arizona on a tube.  It was such cold water and when we hit the rapid water, drunk as we were, we sobered up.  haha.  I wonder that I have lived this long.  You and Don and Shelagh and Abe and Alice Live on the edge!

I don't think it would sound great to Granddad Charles!

I thought I heard a couple names on the royal list - but don't remember them.  Children can arrive with such joy!

Diane or Alice would suit.  My son is in England and is caught-up in the excitement.

I think Dianna in the name somewhere would be an appropriate honor to their mother.  I like the name Catherine for royalty though it's close to the mom's name.  Elizabeth of course is also royal.  I think in royal families they need to borrow from historically royal names.  Yet, Dianna should be in the name anyway - in fact, she was a princess - and under different circumstances she would likely be queen today.  I'm sure Camilla and the scandal has kept Charles from the thrown until the last minute.

Since this is a joy thread, I heard today that they pulled more bodies out of the rubble of the Nepal earthquake.  One man they pulled out is 105 years old.  I guess it wasn't his time yet.  It is also said that the survival may have been helped by the rain providing moisture.

The royal baby girl has a perfect name. It's a lovely story in a world of chaos and pain.  Makes me think a bit of the early Charles and Dianna or the Kennedy family in Camelot.  The images are happy ones.

She will be a beauty...And all of her names suit her and I'm so
happy they honored Princess Diana, that must have killed Camilla.

                                                         Cheers..Joe..............

Agree Joe, they put much thought into the name and having Diane included is great.
