Dear Alice,
I am sorry about your foot.  My daughter had to wear one of those boots for six weeks last year.  She got a knee-high scooter to get around.  It worked better than crutches for her.  She could put her knee on the scooter and push with the other foot.  It had steering handles and a little basket to put things in.  If she got tired, she could sit on it.  Get well.
Love, Betty

Ouch.  I've had the fortune of living 30 years without a broken bone, so I don't really know what you're going through, but I hope you get well soon.

Alice,

I've been out of touch...

How's the foot?

Broken bones aren't any fun, no matter at what age.  I've had a broken ankle, broken leg, broken arm, broken fingers...three different times, five broken ribs, all seperate incidents!!!

Get Well!

God Bless

Alice,

To me it was all part of growing up…  Since I don’t ever plan on growing up, I expect I’ll get a few more.

The broken ankle came from skydiving…jumping a demonstration at Ft. Lee, the post Commander had offered a case of Champaign to the jumper that could land closest to the target after jumping from twelve thousand feet.  He put the case in the middle of target.  I put my foot through it, broke six of the bottles and my ankle.  The other six bottle help kill the pain.  Honestly I was more embarrassed than in pain.  The arthritis in that ankle now hurts more than the original break.  Incidentally, in fourteen hundred jumps, that was the only time I got injured.

The broken leg was high school football.

The broken arm was on my second cross country (East coast to West Coast) motorcycle run, I put my bike down in Denver when someone pulled out in front of me.  Sold the bike took a train home.

The broken fingers were the results of: one was a fight…one was punching a wall locker…one closed in car door.

The broken ribs were from the concussion from being too close when an enemy grenade went off.

Still, Never Had A Bad Day In My Life...Some Just Turn Out Better Than Others!

Stay Sweet, Get Better!

God Bless

Growing up can cause breaks of all kinds.  Some speak of a broken heart.  There is no splint for that.  Broken anything means you have done something that leaves a memory.  How boring it must be to play everything safe.  In my view, taking risks is living.  Some things will heal while others may remain with us for life.  I think most of us experienced pain is some form and that memory sticks.

Alice, no broken bones resulting from a fall, but I had a ruptured disc requiring an operation.  Had my nose broken when hit by a baseball.  Broke a toe and it healed by itself.  That's it for bones, but it doesn't cover being broke.

In 1980 I had a lucky break. I was with friends in Las Vegas. An artist from Alaska was building a 20 foot statue for Caesars palace. At the time I had a pretty good reputation in the fiberglass field. Someone told the artist I was in Las Vegas. He had built the statue out of A/B foam, and was looking for someone to fiberglass it.  I told him I would look at it. I wanted to see the detail in the face. He had a fork lift with a pallet. He said, “Jump on, I’ll lift you up.” I did, and about two feet off the ground the pallet tipped somewhat, and I feel off. I landed on my left elbow. It hurt like when you hit your crazy bone…no big deal. He wanted to take me to the hospital. I told him no it was nothing.  His contract with Caesars demanded any injury had to be taken care of by a doctor. So I went. The xray showed a little hire line crack in the thing that holds lub for the elbow joint. When I got back home, checks started coming to me each week for nine weeks ($171 per check.) At the end of that time they made me two offers. I could spread $9500 out over 12 months, or take $9500 in one check. I took the one check. Outside of the little crack I have never broken a bone…we Italians bounce.

Alice, I have had three broken ribs, one broken finger and a broken cheek bone.  The cheek bone was because my ex husband's girl friend was mad because he was talking to me about some nice times we had had.  She slung the sliding glass door so hard that it caught me on the cheek.  I have a big black eye, for sure.  The next night, she announced their affair to her husband and my self saying she was pregnant.  She used to be my best friend.
One rib, I had borrowed 50 dollars from a guy to buy tags for my car.  I was saving the money to pay him back....but, I went to a bar with a friend after work and he walked in, came over to give me a hug and broke my rib on purpose. The other rib, I was 69 years old.  I was planting a retention pond in Ocala when I slid down a steep bank and fell on my side.  I heard the crack.  The drive home was tough.
My little finger caught a basketball on the tip.  I was a child then.
The lung thing hurt the longest...I think they broke more than one rib.

I hope your foot heals quickly, Alice.
Love,
Betty

You didn't mention pain - hopefully there's little.

I broke an elbow and a wrist - and both caused much pain.  The wrist was from a flying leap in the snow.  I landed on my wrist, bent it back to my arm - packed it in snow and drove myself to emergency.  A famous bone surgeon had just finished an operation and when they wheeled me in, he followed and put an exterior metal frame on my arm to hold the wrist back in place.  I looked like bionic woman.  The pain came after the metal was removed and I had to do therapy.  The best part of therapy was dipping my hands in the wax that made them soft.

Lately my balance is off.  I fell on a downtown sidewalk and slammed both knees with quite a bit of pain.  I fell in my dining room, tripped over a suitcase.  Same knees and bent the big toe.  The falls hurt a lot, but nothing broke.

I think I don't pick up my feet, thus catching my toe on broken pavement or on a suitcase strap.  It's a lesson since nothing broke.

I hope you mend rapidly, alice.  dk

That's good news, Alice.  Healing works best when not rushed.  Our bodies differ and what works for one doesn't mean it is right for another.
Diane, I'm finding trouble falling upstairs.  Guess I don't lift my feet high enough.  That said, it is better than falling downstairs.
