Sounds interesting, Sib. My sister married an Hawaiian and lived there for many years. When her husband died, she moved to Florida where she died. I have cousins living in Hawaii.
It is an interesting place. Although American, the older folk still cling to their ancient culture.
There is peace/calm and yet there is violence. My brother-in-law was a street fighter and led a gang. He was also a prise fighter. While in prison, he was converted and was sent to Bible school in Minnesota where he met my sister. That led to some interesting events when he came for a visit to my hometown of York, Pa. Being dark-skinned you can imagine the remarks and his non-acceptance. When he returned to Hawaii as a minister, he spent time with prisioners and participated in sport events. He was called "the fighting preacher". A cousin and neice were murdered in Hawaii. Violence occurs in the most peaceful of settings.
The book, Aloha Kahuna Soul" is compelling.
