Wow.  That promises to be a great movie.  I liked what was said at the end, and I agree.

Seems the YouTube video is going viral - a good sign, and evidence that such sites can provide a low-cost means of promotion. Mr. Crowe's directorial debut, which he is co-producing, has a limited budget of $30 million. The success of this First Look is encouraging.

The Water Diviner
So far we've only seen one first look photo from The Water Diviner, a period drama that will mark the directorial debut of Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe. But we finally get our look at the first footage from the film in a 7-minute featurette, narrated by Crowe himself (who also stars in the film), as he discusses the project, cast and more. There's some truly magnificent footage here, shot by Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, showing off a unique film that just might put Crowe in the same league with actors turned directors like Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Sean Penn and more. Watch!

The Water Diviner is directed by Russell Crowe (star of Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, The Insider), making his directorial debut from a screenplay by Australian television writing duo Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios. The period drama follows an Australian patriarch (Crowe) who journeys to Turkey in order to find his two sons who went missing during the Battle of Gallipoli in 1919. The film also stars Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Yilmaz Erdogan, Cem Yilmaz, Ryan Corr and Jacqueline McKenzie and is likely to make the round at several film festivals this year, but has no official US release date or distribution just yet.

Like the musical background?  Mr. Crowe discusses the composer in the first 40 seconds of this clip (no need to watch the rest of the clip; in fact, please don't.):

Looks like the US release date has been set for January 23.

Excellent short article on the film:
